Doesn't Bark ?!? Sparrow is 20 weeks old-- we are still working on house breaking, separation issues, etc. The good news is that his accidents are now close to the back door, however he doesn't really bark. He will bark at us when we clean up an accident or when we leave him, but to alert us, there's nothing. Not when the doorbell rings, not when he wants out, not while playing, etc. It is strange. I am thinking of trying bell training, so he can alert us to go out. Gone are the days of him sitting on the couch in our laps, he wants to be on the floor chasing a ball, or exploring.

Harley is 9 months and barely barks. He saves his bark for when he decides to sass back at mommy, which is a new habit of his... or when he meets his "cousin" blackie, my Aunt's huge Boarder Colie... Other than that... not a peep.

Many people have been successful with bell training using the specially made doggy doorbells, or simply hanging jingle bells or windchimes on the doorknob. There are a couple threads in this section about bells and training. My oldest boy didn't start barking until he was 6 months old. Now he has developed quite a voice. He doesn't "talk" all day, but when he does, it is loud.
