| Starting to train Bella is 8.5 weeks old and I have had her for several weeks now. (Yes, very early due to unforseen circumstances.) I have decided to start training her. We tried to get her to sit, but she is too darned short to train like you would a normal sized dog. (All my puppies learned to sit at 8 weeks, but were MUCH MUCH bigger.) Sitting on the floor with puppy treats, just doesn't really work. I wonder if starting this on the ourdoor patio table would maybe be easier cause you can get closer to her level?? She already is familiar with us calling her name and saying come and has only had a handful of 'potty accidents.' She didn't have one until last night she pottied on daddy's pillow. He didn't get mad, just changed the case and curled up with 'his' baby for the night. HE DIDN"T WANT TO GET HER was almost totally against it. Now he's stealing my baby from me. LOL. Any advice would be appreciated. I know she would just be too darned cute if we could have this tiny thing sitting on command for company. Sue |

No Longer a Member | I'm still having issues with teaching Rizzo from a standing position. The only command he'll do with me standing up is "sit". I sit on the floor with his treats and go through the command until he gets it, then I gradually start to raise up. I go to my knees, then I go to a sort of "squat" position, then bending over, and with sit, I can do standing up completly. For "down", and "up" I still have to hunch over but still working on it. Once we get those commands down we'll work on "bow" (need to find another word for that, my bf pointed out that to a dog, bow and down could sound really similar), then well get "stay", I've been gradually working "back off" and "leave it" into his head, but he just wont "back off" or "leave it" the cat, lol. (lucky for me the cat isn't aggressive) I hope I was somewhat helpful, I think these little ones just don't trust that they'll get the treat unless it's at their level. Oh and if you dont already, name you treats, as silly as that sounds. Since Rizzo gets excited and follows his nose and will ignore me when I say "come here" I just say "Rizzo, treatsies!" and he'll come running no matter what he is doing, lol. He sure is a food motivated little guy. |

| Kasha was 2lbs when we got her ( now almost double that but still teeny!). She has learned all her tricks (sit, stay, down, drop it & a leave it/take it game) with me kneeling on the floor. I know what she was like at 11 1/2 weeks (wiggly & hyper) so I wouldn't recommend training on a table top now. They are little dogs & it takes a lot of time & practice for them to learn they live in a big world. Keep at it! It is pretty cute to see a stuffed animal sit! Also congrats on a great potty training run!

| We took our Cooper to a training class - I would highly recommend that! We had already taught him to sit----hold a treat way over his head and slowly take in backwards. It makes them look up and eventually they have to sit to see it. Then they get the treat! Reward reward ---it really works.! |

| Well, 5 minutes sitting on the kitchen table, and a small piece of cheese and Bella now sits on command. The table is the perfect place to teach these little guys. I am amazed at my little smartie. |

| I think we are going to do 'puppy kindergarten' but I think I am going to wait until she is a bit bigger. I am a bit scared seeing all the classes going on, with the 25-30 pound 'puppies'. Bella is still under 2 pounds at almost 10 weeks. 1 pound 10 ounces. |
