| ![]() I wrote a thread earlier, and I was hoping things were getting better, but they are not! I have read every book on housetraining a dog, so many of them say use the crate method, which worked like a miracle with our other yorkie. She was houstrained in 2 weeks, and would NEVER poop in there. Our new puppy seems to love peeing and pooping on herself. We got her from what I thought was a great breeder, but she must have left the puppies in a small little area where they ate, slept, and went potty. It does not matter if she thinks the crate is cozy with her bed she still pees and poops in it, then gets it all over her. I have to give her a bath every single day. I tried confining her to the bathroom with a puppy pad and she will pee on that and then poop on the floor and run all in it and get it all over herself. She has peed on my blanket, pooped on my daughter's pillow. We watch her constantly, take constant trips outside to go potty, give her treats when she goes. She simply does not get it!! I feel absolutely helpless!! What do I do, is she ever going to get it? |

| ![]() Don't allow her to have any pillows or blankets until you can see that she is no longer soiling her bed. I didn't realize my puppy was soiling in her bed for like a week and not minding it until I took the bed out to wash. It was soaked with urine! No bed for her after that!! They don't mind lying in a bed like that because the bed will soak up the urine and they won't feel the wetness too much. Once I took the bed out, I noticed that she doesn't urinate and if she does, she won't sit down in it, she just doesn't like to stand in her own urine. I also wouldn't let her on the beds if she is still not holding it. Once my pup peed on my bed once, she was not allowed on again. She hates that she can't get on but I don't want to risk having to do laundry daily because of a puppy pottying indiscriminately. I'm amazed you were able to housebreak your first yorkie in two weeks. Yorkies are apparently one of the hardest dogs to potty train. I am a first time yorkie owner and I even though I was expecting the difficulty, it really is frustrating since my German Shepherd got the idea right away. |

| ![]() I am doing fairly well with 16 week old Bella so far but I do have to watch her. She does not potty in her crate (unless the hours were to long) and she mostly uses the puppy pad or outside, but she does have a favorite rug in the house so I have to keep close eye on her if she gets near that rug for to long. As to your problem the first most important is that once she is fed watch her like a hawk and within about 20 mins take her outside and try to wait until she has pooped and pee'd. Once she has done her business put her in the crate. The crate should only be large enough for her to stand, turn around and lay down. If your crate is bigger you need to make it smaller by partitioning it. Since you are having troubles I would leave her in the crate for a couple of hours, then take her from the crate directly outside. If she doesn't potty within a couple of minutes play with her actively for a few minutes then let her sniff around again for a few minutes. If she potties make sure you make a big wonderful deal of it. Not scary loud but tell her how wonderful she is, then play another minute or two. Then back in the house and back in the crate. A couple of hours later should be the same routine. Then feed her and back in the crate. About 20 minutes or so after each meal she should go out and then about every 2 to 3 hours if there has been no meal. If she is keeping the crate dry you can add back a small folded blanket and keep it there as long as she doesn't start using it to potty. The main thing is being consistant. Also don't snack her alot because you need to know when she should have to poop and if she eats all the time you don't know. One last thing, be patient. Bella takes a lot longer than my Chihuahua's to decide to pee and especially poop. She has to play and sniff and roam then at the last second when I am about to give up she hides behind a potted plant and poops so be patient and watchful! GOOD LUCK
