| Help with 1 year old female and potty training Hi there. So m=our little one will be 1 yr old next month. She is 90% potty trained. She uses a pee pad. So this is the problem. We have the pad in the bathroom and she will ALWAYS go there when she needs to go. The problem is that 50% of the times she misses. She will go right in the edge of the pad and half of the pee goes under the pad. She will do about 50-60% on the pad (in the middle) and poop on it too sometimes. WHat to do? I giver her treats and tell her she has done a good job only when she goes on it 100%. But how do I tell her she is not aiming right? She is doing some of it right - she goes to the bathroom and looks for the pad but misses..... Also I have tried using 2 pads to give her more room and she still goes on the edges. |

| sounds like she is doing a great job.. she knows the concept and is trying to do it correctly.. there are 2 things you can try. 1- cover the entire floor with pads and remove them one by one over a period of time until she is down to one pad 2- you might try a pad holder tray. she would learn quickly that to get to the pad, she has to step onto the tray.

| I also have a puppy that will be 12 mos. next month. I have exactly the same problem that you have. We keep the pad in the bathroom and she uses it most of the time, but she goes to the edge or beside it. We've tried more pads but same results. When she was younger she was a lot better about hitting the pad. We also take her outside, but the pad is for times we are out or when it's bad weather. She still goes on the floor in the dining room quite often. We put a potty pad there and she doesn't use it. I can't believe Cricket is almost 1 yr. old and isn't potty trained. We have tried every method we have heard of and nothing seems to work. |

| Do you have the pad laying out on the floor. I found that the pups will end up on the edge of a pad if you just place the pad on the floor. The thing that works best for me is putting a large litter box on the floor and then lining the box with a pad. That way the pad can't move around to much and the pet is forced to get into the box to use the pad. Which pretty much makes it impossible to poop or pee out of the box. It also contains anything that might seep under an edge. Hope this helps. PS Any container that has a lower edge will work for this. Once on a vacation I used the bottom of a cardboard box.
