Senior Yorkie Talker | Yorkie bites! Teething... Ok so Lexi is almost 4 months. She's obviously teething, but what can I do to avoid her biting everything she sees. Usually she listens when I tell her "no" and she doesn't touch it, but certain things she's determined to bite. Things like...shoe laces, towels, cords etc. I've heard of something called bitter apple spray...but I don't want to spray everything, that would be a bit too much, she should know what to touch and what not to touch. Someone tell me it gets better after she's done teething.... What age do they stop teething? Will she always have the urge to bite things? |

Hi, you are right to tell her no if she's chewing something you don't want her to, but does she have things that she is allowed to chew on? She seems to enjoy fabric things to chew, so maybe a little rope toy would be good. I think the nylabones are great too! They chew more when they're teething. My dog trainer once gave me a fantastic tip. She said to wet a face cloth, then freeze it, then give it to the pup to chew on! The cold gives them great relief on their little gums while they're teething!

Hi guys! I know this post is really old but I try to look back for things I'm questioning so I don't duplicate posts. I'm having the same issue with Molly. This morning seems worse. She is 16 weeks old and I know she's teething but this morning it's like there's no relief for her and she's actually trying to bite my hands. I gave her a frozen carrot which seemed to help and I put out some dry kibble which she rarely eats after she's already had breakfast but this morning she's even chewed around on that. I am at a loss on what else to do for her. I caught her chewing in her metal crate door this morning and I noticed she has chewed some grout out of the floor. What else can I do for the poor little thing? I have the nylabones and have tried the frozen was cloth too. It helps for the moment.

I'm having the same problem with Mia! She is 19 weeks today, and she bites and chews EVERYTHING! Some days she is obedient, and other days--like TODAY!--she bites hard and is impossible to distract. I don't know how to get her to stop. She doesn't listen to "NO!". I have tried saying OUCH really loud, folding my arms and ignoring her, but she just attacks my pant legs or shoelaces then. Eventually, I end up putting her back into her playpen, but when I let her back out it is the same story all over again. She has loads of toys, a rope, frozen cloth bone, and a Kong (which she has no interest in.) Somebody please tell me that she will grow out of this and be a well-behaved dog someday! She is no longer the sweet, placid puppy we fell in love with (though we still love her!)

Mine is 6 months and still chews a good bit and gets in a mood where she thinks I am a chew toy. She doesn't think dad is a chew toy-only me and grandma.

Molly is the same way with me. A friend of mine told me it was because she new I was a pushover and my husband wasn't. She can try a little more with me. I tell her "no" as well but she doesn't seem to listen to me. My hubby can say "no" to her and she knows he means business. Maybe I am a big softie. Idk....

I recognize that this thread is old but this is my first post and also did not want to duplicate a post.My Onyx is 13 weeks old and chews EVERYTHING...including people.I have read that you must break this habit or they will think its ok even when they get older. He has a load of chew toys and gets a lot of attention.I try firmly saying STOP to him but most of the time that doesn't work.I have tried ignoring him, putting him back in his playpen etc. I hope he outgrows it~I will continue to be firm with him~I can't even use puppy pads~if he realizes they are there he will chew them and I can't have him getting the plastic in his mouth.I'm still working on the potty training too! I must say this is my first Yorkie though and I love him to pieces!!!! I know he is a baby and I think with consistency he will outgrow the chewing. Thanks for posting all the great advice!

Thanks for commenting. Its good to know that it is not just my Onyx that is going through this "stage". I hope it gets better soon...I want to just cuddle and play nice with him without being bitten..even in play lol. I love him to pieces and I wish I could figure out how to post a pic~I have read up on it but every pic I try to put on must be too large.By the way how big is your baby girl?
