Pee Pad Mess

I tried spraying Bitter Apple on the edges of the pad today- it worked, no chewing! (for today-- we'll see!)

Sorry, I just had to laugh when I pictured what your little one looked like with shredded pee-pad or tape all over.

I have a question for those who use the cloth pee-pads. Does you baby ever get mixed up about the carpet in your house. Do they ever think the carpet or rugs are pee-pads too since you're using cloth pads?

Joey learned to use the pee pad much faster on the wood floors. Almost immediately he learned and rarely had accidents. Carpet took longer, and throw rugs were turned into pee pads! Lol, I have one small throw rug that I still use in the entry way, he doesn't use it, but whenever my sons' dogs come over, they use the entryway rug, and they are outside trained! I think you have to kind of give up on the idea of throw rugs if you pee pad train, but we have lots of predators in AZ, and I don't want to leave Joey outside alone for even a minute, so pee pads work best for us.

stella is 10 months old. from everyone I spoke to they said their puppy stopped shredding the puppy pads by then but I guess Stella is just going to be stubborn. I cant wait till she is a year. People say that is when you notice a difference and they calm down.

ladyjane, thanks for the website...I really like those. Very reasonably priced and I think I am going to order them to give them a try. Stella's pads now cost around $25 per pad so I really want to find something cheaper...esp if she is going to try to eat them. I really like that site.

Jussi, it was pretty funny after I got over the initial shock. Especially the tape...it was near her mouth so I know she was trying to remove it from the puppy pad and she was probably like 'ooops'. I took pictures but could not find them to post them here. Shredded puppy pad was worse...having to cut it out of her face...she is finally just growing the hair back now! As far as pee pads and rugs...Stella has never mistook a rug for peepad. I dont know why as I have a lot of rugs in my apartment. She has never gone on my bed but once she did go on my couch when she was very little. I think she more associates the place rather than the pee pad. B/c if I do not have the puppy pad down she still will run to the same spot if she wants to go.

Have you tried the Potty Patch???? It is made of soft artificial grass with a collection tray that holds a gallon of liquid. You just empty it. It also attracts the dog to it and there is no odor.

My Yorkies use it when I go out and - no mess! I come home and all is well!
It only took a little training and some treats to get them to use it.

You can get them just about anywhere now!

LindaBedilia...I have looked into that and it is the one thing I have never tried. I got frustrated trying to find the best one. Some are expensive and others not so much. I have also heard mixed reviews. Stella is mainly trained to go outside so I thought this would be good for her. I am just afraid she will try to eat the grass or lay on it. I also do not want to change the tray underneath. I have visions of it slopping over the sides - ewww. Is it big enough that you can put a puppy pad in the tray and then just wash that along with the grass? I was also afraid it would smell b/c my apartment is very small. It's not like I can put it in the laundry room (since I do not have one).

I have a friend who bought one and she did not like having to drag it outside to clean it. Said it was disgusting, which is what I really would think.
I can just see what could get stuck in that "grass".
