| Litter Box Training? I have been curious about litter box training for dogs for a while. Does anyone here on YT use this method? If so how do you go about training dogs to use a litter box when they have been trained to puppy pads in past? Toby has always used puppy pads in between going outside. He is not completely consistent with this and tends to get lazy... Toby is crate trained and fantastic with a crate and never cries and will go right out to potty but if not attended constantly he will potty somewhere in the house before its over. It is never just random he will do it on something he thinks is a puppy pad. I know my fault for confusing him by letting him have puppy pads for in between . Molly knows nothing when it comes to where she should potty. She is scared to death to be in a crate (ex breeding dog I am told... I am guessing they locked her in one a lot?) Anyway I have tried everything to get her to find the crate as safe but she does not want anything to do with it. She will actually pee in the crate if you leave her in it for even a 5 min span. I do not want to cause her to stress so I am looking for other methods. She does not understand the pad. She will sometimes go outside and sometimes not. Ok so that is a general overview of whats going on... any tips??? Please??? Lol. For the above reasons I wonder if a litter box would work out best for them as a only option for them to potty in instead of having outside + pads. My collie is older and 110% house trained. Man I wish little dogs were as easy as the big babies to house train... maybe it is just me? Thanks guys!!!

| update... turns out molly is a gymnast... while this would be great if I wanted to do agility with her the whole not being able to confine her in any way is about to drive me bonkers... I went out and bought and play pen and set it up for toby and molly... looked great lasted for all of about ten min and then molly learned she could jump... toby of course is sitting quietly eating his food... he is so good I wish every dog could be as easy going as he is.... ok what next

| We are litter box training our Yorkie. He is doing well. I started with putting the training pads in the little box and that attracted him to it. He is doing good not 100% yet but one can dream ... He is almost 5mos. |

| I wish I did! Dunkin (10-11 months) was always an outside pottier — well, at least that was the goal. But it's just too cold for him, and even when we do get him outside, he just runs for the door, so we have been trying to get him to go on pee pads (eventually would like to put the pads in a litter pan.) We started with about 5 arranged in a square, and this gave him some room for error. Now we are down to three pads. Some days he does really well, and we give him lost of praise when we see him going on the pads. Other days are just out of control. He acts like a 13-week-old puppy sometimes, dribbling pee everywhere. We tried putting a little pan in the middle of the pads, but then he just started peeing on the outside of it. I think we won't go back to putting the litter pan down until we are down to one pad, and we'll probably keep a pad in the litter pan for a while. Good luck! |

| Sounds like Dunkin is farther than Molly is!!! Molly has no pattern I'm lost. Looking for a taller ex pen currently. Think Im going to get one of the 48 inch tall ones... surely she wont be able to get out of that.

| Dunkin has a 36-inch tall pen. He's tiny, so he can't get out (he jumps pretty close though!) The downside with it being so high is that it's hard for me to just lean over and pick things up or set him in. It could be because I'm short, 5'2"-ish, but I end up having to crouch in the little door almost everyday. Just something to keep in mind! |
