When we brought home our Tink at 8 weeks she was in a small cloth carry crate and I covered it with a baby blanket (fan on in room) and she slept on the bed next to me. She only had one accident ever in that little crate. I was so afraid I might roll on her when she was so little. Once she was big enough she has always slept with me. Now we have two as I got a retired breeder last year. She truly is an angelic dog just does everything right and we adore both our fur babies. both would not know what to do if they could not sleep in our beds!! I have doggie steps on the side of my bed!

My 4 fur girls all sleep with me, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

They each started out in a playpen near my bed at first, until they got used to using the pee pad (on the floor). If they'd pee on the pad, then they got to come in bed, otherwise back to the pen. I used to get up a couple times a night to potty them in the first months. Now we all sleep right thru, and they get off the bed when they need to.

just thought it was funny that you (and everyone) always says "they wont potty where they sleep"... well i guess my dog is the exception, she has ALWAYS gone where she sleeps.. she doesnt care...luckily shes house trained now and knwos to go outside (every now and then she has an accident, probably cause she can't get me to wake up in the middle of the night) but before she was housetrained, she would go in her crate on her blankets/towels on our bed when she slept with us... etc... it got so bad at one point that we had to put her in her crate in the garage (during summer so she wont freeze) at night just so she would get it, to NOT go in the house at all, crate, bed, kitchen nothing.... it took her a year and a half to house train, shes strong will'd... But now to answer the topic question... id say wait to let the dog sleep in your bed because it WILL have accidents on your bed, especially if it is too scared to jump down, and jumping down isnt that safe for a puppy anyways... so its better to just wait until after teh housetraining. my dog sleeps with me now or in her little bed in the bedroom, but only because i trust her to not go to the bathroom on the bed or the floor... when she does have her acidents in the middle of the night now, its either right by the door to go outside, or on the linoleum.

Yes, I am embarrassed to say Mabel sleeps in our bed. My husband works nights so he does not mind. She is 12 weeks old and has been sleeping with me since we got her at 7 weeks.(except for the first 3 nights in the crate) After that I couldn't resist putting her in my bed at night! She peed on my bed once the first week but now sleeps all night with no accidents! Luckily she peed on the far end away from me! But I figure the comfort we both recieve from nightly cuddling is worth washing the sheets! well, it is to me anyway!!:)

Nolee did sleep with us...but now he is sleeping in the living room. It is a transition, but I think for the best!

My baby Leo sleeps in the bed with me. I got him when he was 10 weeks old and at the end of the first week with us, he started sleeping in the bed. He is 7 months old now and I have not had any problems with him peeing in the bed. The bed is low so he can get out when he needs to relieve himself.:animal36

When we are winding down for the night I will turn the lamp on low and bring Bailey up in the bed with me for 5 or 10 min for last bit of lovin'. Then my husband takes him out for his last walk and puts him in his bed in the living room. I think we sleep better without our puppy in the bed. But I have the same philosophy for babies sleeping in our bed too. I sleep too light and would never get any rest.

Both of mine sleep in the bed with us. Bogey sleeps under the cover against my back & Pebbles sleeps in between my DH & me. If they're not in their normal spot then I go looking for them! Love it.

All four of ours allow us to sleep in their King size bed. Everyone has their spot. As I read the other comments, I kept thinking I have been their done that. I raised a trio of Yorkies prior to the four I have now. The Trio were all crate trained. When I got the first of these four dogs, I declared I would never crate a dog again. In hind site, this was a big mistake. Of the four I have now, only one is comfortable in a crate. I have had one fall from the bed and break his leg at 9 weeks old, I've been pee'd on, I have been pooped on, and two nights ago, the one that broke his leg at 9 weeks is now 5 and he puked on my head:(. I would at the very least crate train when they are young so you have the option when they are older. I have had Yorkies since 1987 and it has been one big adventure after another.

I have to say I love it but that's because I'm now alone.....I can't imagine if I ever meet anyone again...my girls pretty much consider the bed THEIR bed

When it's 'that' time - they skip down the hall and get in their little 'spots' trying to beat me out to the bedroom...

My Bebe sleeps with me and hubby since day one as well. Hes never messed in our bed but has had accidents in the house. He gets my husband up at 3am every night to let him out to pee. When my hubby works nights sometimes, Bebe knows not to wake me in the middle of the night and sleeps all night long.....LOL He's got the hubby wrapped around his little paw!!!!!:)

I have 4 furkids that sleep on my bed with me right now and 3 who choose to sleep on their beds in my room. Destiny in fact insists on getting under the covers and snuggling close. And Lillie always sleeps on my pillow right above my head, she can be a pillow hog!!
I have doggy stairs leading to my bed and a pad on the floor. This way if they are on my bed and have to go potty they go down the stairs to go on the pad. The doggy stairs have been wonderful. I don't ever have to worry about accidents on my bed or them jumping off my bed and getting hurt to get to the pad.

It's funny because they all know the bedtime routine. I say "ready for bed" and they all get excited and run for my room and are up the stairs and on my bed in a flash. I can't figure out why any dog would be so excited just to go to sleep?!:rolleyes:

When I have a puppy starting out, they are either crated by my bed or I let them sleep on my bed but they are required to wear a diaper until I know they are completely trained. I usually go the diaper right route because I give in to them to easily. I mean who doesn't like cuddling a puppy, lol?!

I couldn't imagine sleeping without my furbaby next to me. He always positions himself right in between my hubby and I;). He wakes me up around 4am to go potty and goes right back to sleep.
