PEE PAD ON A BED! EEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

I crate trained all my 3 pups! Its great ! Once in a great while ill let one of them sleep with me.

I wish he slept with us. He is just so small and our bed is very high off the ground. I am too scared he would fall and get hurt or my husband would roll on him and hurt him.

Plus, our Yorkie (Jett) loves our Pug (Otto) so much that he cries if he is not near him at bedtime. They actually both sleep together in the same crate in our living room. I only crate because I am so scared they would get playing in the middle of the night and he would fall down the stairs (we have spiral stairs and he doesnt go up or down them by himself). The crate is a nice safe place. When he gets a little older I plan on letting him sleep on his bed in our room.

Mine do and always have - I have steps all over - bed - couch and the one chair near my front window.....they run the show !

I would not allow a puppy in bed until it was fully housebroken.
I crate trained Buddy but left his crate in the kitchen during the night.
I regret that to this day. I read an article that said, it made sence at
the time, to leave the crate in a place that your puppy will be spending
most of it's time when it comes home. That was the kitchen. I left night
lights all over on all four walls but my bedroom was far away. I wish
I didn't listen to that article and left his crate next to my bed. I feel
sad even today 6yrs later that he came home to a new home in a strange
place and slept alone at night. I would crate train your puppy but leave
the crate by your bed with a cover over the top for security. Once trained
put his bed next to your bed. If he wants up I would allow him to sleep with you, which was Buddy's choice but if he sleeps in his own bed at that
point I wouldn't encourage it. It's really better he sleep in his own bed.

Carol, I totally have the same guilt. When Snick 1st came home (he was only 8 weeks old!) we crated him in the laundry room and he was all alone in a new place with strangers (us!) It makes me sick to think I did that to him. He would cry and cry for a solid 3 weeks. Finally I had it, it broke my heart and we brough him in our bedroom and he was SILENT all night.

To the OP, crate training can be GREAT for some pups but was not suitable for our Snickers. He is a puppy mill pup and he just hated crates in general (can you blame him?) So after we decided to get rid of the crate, we usd a small human playpen which was elevated about 1 ft off the ground and he stayed in there while we were at work, it worked so much better. He slept in our bed when he was about 4 months and did have about 2 accidents (gross!) At about 6 months he was fully trained and now will not sleep anywhere but with us.

Dogs want to be with their pack, and the pack is you:). If you crate train, please keep the crate in your room by you at night. During the day I would keep the crate where there is some action to watch, (by a window/tv etc.)

Good luck:)

I was just wondering if your baby/babies sleep on the bed with you? Is this a bad idea if you're wanting to crate train? I read a post on here where a lady lets her baby sleep in the bed with her and lays down pee pads on her bed! I can't bring myself to do that, besides, to me that's telling them that it's OK to go potty on the bed. I'm bringing my baby home in two weeks and I'm trying to gather all of the best information as possible! Please let me know what you do!

Mine is 8 weeks old. We got him and 6 weeks. He was already partially crate trained. B/C he was so young when we got him, I did let him sleep in his own bed at night but when he got up in the morning, usually about 6AM - heaven help me - I'd put him in the bed with me for a while until I was ready to get up, or until he absouluty made me get up. Now, he is 8 weeks old, and mostly he stays in his room ( a very large bathroom with a baby gate at the door so he is not "locked in there") while we sleep at night. He naps with me during the day when I'm home, and with my husband who doesn't work until 5PM most days. As soon as he is fully house trained I am assuming he will sleep with us all the time. He was also so small I didn't want to smush him, he sleeps right under my chin on my neck. One good roll on my part and he's toast.

I also crate trained and it worked like a charm. I would say she was 99% housebroken by 6 months. We didn't not let her sleep anywhere else but in her crate until she was housebroken. Now she is 13 months 100% housebroken and we still keep her crate in the bedroom and leave it open for her to go in and out as she wants. She mostly sleeps in her crate with the door open but as a "treat" we will let her sleep in our bed about once in a while.

P.S. Please don't put pee pads in your bed.

When pups, mine sleep in a crate on the bed at night. Once housetrained, they allowed me to start sharing their bed with them.... :D

Both of my sleep with me if they want, which they do LOl !!

But I also have their bed next to my if they want to sleep there, every once's in a while Miley will go to it, but Max's never leaves my bed.
And they both started in the crate, until train and than they decide if they want mom's bed or not.
NOOOOOO pee pad on bed !!!!! No No, only on the floor in different bathroom , and in a corner in the kitchen.
Congrat's !!! And Good Luck with your new furbaby.

My babies sleep in bed with me. When they were little, I got up in the night to take them potty and kept a diaper on them. Wet a diaper once and it probably won't happen a second time. My youngest recently regressed on potty training after we boarded her for a week. She has been sleeping in her crate at night and will continue to do so until she demonstrates proficiency with pee pad use.

Bandit used to sleep with us but we stopped it shortly after we got Nala. Now they only come in our bed on weekend mornings after they wake up and go outside or when my hubby is out for the night I sleep with Bandit (for some reason I feel like he'd protect me from a burglar or murderer lol)

Our little 2lb 13oz Cordell (at 6 years old) sleeps on my pillow.... we argue over who sleeps on my pillow.... Cordell wins. The only time he's ever had an accident is when he's been not feeling good.
