This is so funny... I've had Sasha for 3 days now and she loves to nap with me. I keep her in her crate overnight so she won't have any accidents (not to mention I'm scared by hubby would roll over on all 3 lbs of her during the night!), but she doesn't have accidents on the bed (knock on wood!)! She is so sweet, even my hubby is a big baby with her, which I never saw coming! You know how they are..."Hey shrimp, you wanna come up on my lap? Yes, you're a good girl!" All the while making the baby voice at her lol! |
Ava (4 mos) has her small "bedtime crate" in my bedroom. She starts out sleeping with me, and then half way through the night I take her to her pee pad which is in her large daytime crate, and then she goes in her bedtime crate for the rest of the night. When she was younger, I used to have to wake up 3 times during the night to take her to pee. Cutting off her water at 7:30pm has helped too. |
My Yorkies Hi My yorkies, Calleigh & Patti sleep with me. I live alone, my husband died 15 years ago and they are great company. I never remarried - so they are my babies and family. LB, Calleigh, Patti:aimeeyork |
Ebony has slept on my bed from when she was 9 wks old..... starting in her crate on my bed coz i was worried about rolling over on her or her falling off my bed, and since i moved into my new house 5 wks ago and while ive been waiting for my bed to arrive ive been sleeping on the sofa.... which has been shared with myself, her and the cat.... and you dont think a double bed is big enough for 4 of you lol. She will be 2 in April and will be a new Mummy in 4 weeks :D x x x |
I read it's not a good idea to let your dog sleep in your bed, Alpha and all that, but who can resist? Normally I start him on a pile of blankets next to the bed and in the morning will invite him in. Sometimes he starts out in the bed, and there have been very few accidents -- he can jump down if he has to. This morning the poor little guy puked in my bed, but he's fine. The sheets are in the wash now. Right now I'm crate training him so he sleeps in his crate next to my bed where he can see me and watch TV. :) Once he gets the hang of going outside we'll probably go back to sometimes in bed and sometimes not. At least he doesn't go crazy or bark his head off if I don't let him in. |

All three of ours sleep in our bed and we have no issues besides getting licked in the face once in a while in the middle of the night. LOL :) To avoid middle of the night distress if one of them does happen to get sick, we keep a piece of fleece on the last 1/4 of our bed near our feet. They rotate all over the bed , of course, but as luck would have it if anyone has gotten sick its been on the peice of fleece so I didn;t have to wash our nice cover. We're very careful with what ours eat so *knock on wood*...no one has gotten sick in quite some time. :) Its much harder to control though once the weather warms up and they get to run freely outside. You never know what they might pick up and if you have more than one its a bit harder to keep a keen eye on all at once :) |

I've let Sir sleep in my bed since he first came home. I know, everyone says crate training is the way to go but I couldn't leave him in the crate all alone that first night. Before bed, I make sure to take him out one last time and then we immediately go to bed (no water or snacks). Then in the morning before I do anything I take him outside. This seemed to be a good process because he learned that the bedroom was sort of his den, and then slowly figured out that the rest of the house was off-limits, too. He's to the point now where if it's a real emergency, he'll lick me and make a fuss till we go out. But at first I'm sure your puppy will have accidents, so pee pads on the floor next to your bed might be a good idea if you want to go this route. Hope this helps! |

The first night Lucy came home she stayed in her crate. She was really sleepy from the drive (she came from 2 hours away) and it was late at night when we got home. Since then, I just can't make her sleep in it. She cries and wants to be in bed with us so of course I give in! At 12 weeks Lucy has only had one accident in the house and that was the first night. I literally spend every minute with her and have already learned when she needs to go out and about the times. She has not had an accident yet in our bed either (knock on wood). She usually wakes us up around 6am by giving us kisses, letting us know that she needs to go out :) She's a good alarm clock for her daddy! Hahahahaha!!!! She brings her toys and her own blanket over to the bed and looks up at me to put it all up on it. It's really cute! Like someone else said, we're lucky she lets us share HER bed now. :heart toKandi |
My Lexi is only 4 months. She sleeps in her own bed downstairs in a play pen, I've only made her crate as a safe place to eat and for when we're traveling. She keeps quiet and sleeps for the 8 hours that I'm sleeping. Maybe in the middle of the day I'll take a nap and she'll nap in my bed, but other than that, she sleeps in her own bed at night. So far she hasn't peed on the bed, she usually looks for the pee pad and gets antsy, especially if she's on my lap. That way I know she has to pee and I just put her on the floor. |
Yes she does! :) |
Olive sleeps with me, and she has from day one. It also helps that my bed is a mattress on the floor and she can just hop off to her potty pad if she needs to. |
Once Morgan was potty trained, we let her start sleeping on the bed. She is five months old now and has not ::knock on wood:: had a single accident in our bed. |
My little Tucker has slept in bed with me since day one :) At first I was scared to squish him so until he was about year old he slept on my pillow next to my head. Then he got to big and took up the whole pillow, he loves to get under the covers at my feet now! He is a great foot warmer in the winter. The only time he has ever peed the bed was the first day I got him, and had him at my boyfriends before we lived together( i think he was just marking his territory HEHEH:D). Lets just say boyfriend was a little upset, and I was amused. |
When we brought home our Tink at 8 weeks she was in a small cloth carry crate and I covered it with a baby blanket (fan on in room) and she slept on the bed next to me. She only had one accident ever in that little crate. I was so afraid I might roll on her when she was so little. Once she was big enough she has always slept with me. Now we have two as I got a retired breeder last year. She truly is an angelic dog just does everything right and we adore both our fur babies. both would not know what to do if they could not sleep in our beds!! I have doggie steps on the side of my bed! |
My 4 fur girls all sleep with me, and I wouldn't have it any other way! They each started out in a playpen near my bed at first, until they got used to using the pee pad (on the floor). If they'd pee on the pad, then they got to come in bed, otherwise back to the pen. I used to get up a couple times a night to potty them in the first months. Now we all sleep right thru, and they get off the bed when they need to. |
just thought it was funny that you (and everyone) always says "they wont potty where they sleep"... well i guess my dog is the exception, she has ALWAYS gone where she sleeps.. she doesnt care...luckily shes house trained now and knwos to go outside (every now and then she has an accident, probably cause she can't get me to wake up in the middle of the night) but before she was housetrained, she would go in her crate on her blankets/towels on our bed when she slept with us... etc... it got so bad at one point that we had to put her in her crate in the garage (during summer so she wont freeze) at night just so she would get it, to NOT go in the house at all, crate, bed, kitchen nothing.... it took her a year and a half to house train, shes strong will'd... But now to answer the topic question... id say wait to let the dog sleep in your bed because it WILL have accidents on your bed, especially if it is too scared to jump down, and jumping down isnt that safe for a puppy anyways... so its better to just wait until after teh housetraining. my dog sleeps with me now or in her little bed in the bedroom, but only because i trust her to not go to the bathroom on the bed or the floor... when she does have her acidents in the middle of the night now, its either right by the door to go outside, or on the linoleum. Laundry detergent is cheap Yes, I am embarrassed to say Mabel sleeps in our bed. My husband works nights so he does not mind. She is 12 weeks old and has been sleeping with me since we got her at 7 weeks.(except for the first 3 nights in the crate) After that I couldn't resist putting her in my bed at night! She peed on my bed once the first week but now sleeps all night with no accidents! Luckily she peed on the far end away from me! But I figure the comfort we both recieve from nightly cuddling is worth washing the sheets! well, it is to me anyway!!:) |
I never put Bailey in bed with me, she slept in her bed..beside my bed. She only weighed 9ozs. when I got her at 10 weeks old..and I was terrified that I would hurt her. Now, she's almost two years old and weighs 3 lbs., but my husband is still afraid that he'll roll over on her or knock her out of bed. She has taken over my recliner, which is where she sleeps. It's so funny when we have people over and someone sits in my chair...she will just set in the floor looking up at them like they have some nerve sitting in HER chair....it's so cute!!:) |
Nolee did sleep with us...but now he is sleeping in the living room. It is a transition, but I think for the best! |
My baby Leo sleeps in the bed with me. I got him when he was 10 weeks old and at the end of the first week with us, he started sleeping in the bed. He is 7 months old now and I have not had any problems with him peeing in the bed. The bed is low so he can get out when he needs to relieve himself.:animal36 |
When we are winding down for the night I will turn the lamp on low and bring Bailey up in the bed with me for 5 or 10 min for last bit of lovin'. Then my husband takes him out for his last walk and puts him in his bed in the living room. I think we sleep better without our puppy in the bed. But I have the same philosophy for babies sleeping in our bed too. I sleep too light and would never get any rest. |
Babies in Bed Both of mine sleep in the bed with us. Bogey sleeps under the cover against my back & Pebbles sleeps in between my DH & me. If they're not in their normal spot then I go looking for them! Love it. |
All four of ours allow us to sleep in their King size bed. Everyone has their spot. As I read the other comments, I kept thinking I have been their done that. I raised a trio of Yorkies prior to the four I have now. The Trio were all crate trained. When I got the first of these four dogs, I declared I would never crate a dog again. In hind site, this was a big mistake. Of the four I have now, only one is comfortable in a crate. I have had one fall from the bed and break his leg at 9 weeks old, I've been pee'd on, I have been pooped on, and two nights ago, the one that broke his leg at 9 weeks is now 5 and he puked on my head:(. I would at the very least crate train when they are young so you have the option when they are older. I have had Yorkies since 1987 and it has been one big adventure after another. |
my 2 have slept with me since day one - I tried playpens etc (didn't work) but am a very very light sleeper Cheri perches on a pillow above my head - Chanel flat on her back - head on the pillow and snores throughout the night....:D I have to say I love it but that's because I'm now alone.....I can't imagine if I ever meet anyone again...my girls pretty much consider the bed THEIR bed When it's 'that' time - they skip down the hall and get in their little 'spots' trying to beat me out to the bedroom... |
My Bebe sleeps with me and hubby since day one as well. Hes never messed in our bed but has had accidents in the house. He gets my husband up at 3am every night to let him out to pee. When my hubby works nights sometimes, Bebe knows not to wake me in the middle of the night and sleeps all night long.....LOL He's got the hubby wrapped around his little paw!!!!!:) |
2 of my babies sometime 3, sleep in the bed with me and my husband. Rock sleeps right beside me snuggled to me. Ryann sleeps at the bottom of the bed on HER pillow. Sometimes when Raven knows it's bedtime she'll run up under the bed until we get in the bed, then she'll come out. Knowing good and well know one's getting up. My other 4 are crate trained and when it's bedtime they go get in their crates themselves. Everyone knows their spot!!! |
I have 4 furkids that sleep on my bed with me right now and 3 who choose to sleep on their beds in my room. Destiny in fact insists on getting under the covers and snuggling close. And Lillie always sleeps on my pillow right above my head, she can be a pillow hog!! I have doggy stairs leading to my bed and a pad on the floor. This way if they are on my bed and have to go potty they go down the stairs to go on the pad. The doggy stairs have been wonderful. I don't ever have to worry about accidents on my bed or them jumping off my bed and getting hurt to get to the pad. It's funny because they all know the bedtime routine. I say "ready for bed" and they all get excited and run for my room and are up the stairs and on my bed in a flash. I can't figure out why any dog would be so excited just to go to sleep?! When I have a puppy starting out, they are either crated by my bed or I let them sleep on my bed but they are required to wear a diaper until I know they are completely trained. I usually go the diaper right route because I give in to them to easily. I mean who doesn't like cuddling a puppy, lol?! |
I couldn't imagine sleeping without my furbaby next to me. He always positions himself right in between my hubby and I;). He wakes me up around 4am to go potty and goes right back to sleep. :wavey:Lynn and Pepper :aimeeyork |
