| Citronella Bark collar update So I got one of these citronella bark collars and I put it on him yesterday for the first time. He tried to bark and got sprayed, he was confused and tried a few more times and got sprayed some more. Today I put it back on him in the morning and first thing he did was go to the doors that lead to my back yard and started barking at a squirl. He got sprayed about 3 times this morning. Now he won't go near the door, I think he thinks it's coming from the door. He won't go anywhere near that area and is hanging on my ankles. The good news is that some more squirls and birds have come by and he hasn't barked, but what do I do about him hanging on me. It is more quiet around here though. LOL. |

| You're having better luck than I did with the citronella...it didn't work for my male but he smelled nice all the time! LOL! Seriously though...maybe put the collar on him and take him outside...then if/when he barks he will know he gets sprayed outside too and it's not just in the door area. |

| I am highly against the citronella collar. I think it's a form of fear training. He will be scared to ever make a peep, and dogs need to be able to bark to tell you things. I think as his owner you need to understand what his barks mean. Also, overtime he will get desensitized to the spray and it will not work anyway. Products like these are kind of like "quick fixes", and IMO don't really solve the real problem. You need to find out what is making him bark. Like, he sees a squirrel, so you go look at it with him through the window, like yes look a squirrel! Ok now let's do something else, like play and distract him with a ball. Some others have had much success with pennies in a can or a squirt of water in the face. Still kind of the same to me, scaring them, but less severe. I can only imagine how uncomfortable a spray of citronella in my face could be.
