| how do i get her to go to the bathroom outside off her leash?? Our puppy Nala is doing pretty well with her potty training (ten times better than Bandit did at her age- 7 months). The only trouble is, that she is great when I take her for a walk but she won't go in the backyard. We live in a townhouse and we have a back door to a fenced in backyard which is the perfect spot for her to go, but she still doesn't get it....help |

| Try to give her lots and lots of water and then take her out back. You know she's going to have to go at some point after consuming so much water so just make sure she stays until she goes. When she finally pees, praise and praise like crazy and give her good treats Just a suggestion. Someone else will probably have a better idea.

| I am not sure but maybe you could just take her in the yard with her leash on and get her to go .Make a fuss when she go's give a treat etc. After a while take the leash off and see if she go's . Hope this helps. |

| Take her out on the leash and stand there in one spot so she can't roam outside of the length of the leash and forget what she's doing. After she calms down, she will eventually go and reward her with play time or treats. Eventually she won't need the leash anymore. I think the key is standing in one spot so they don't get distracted.

| You also might try taking one of her poops and putting it in your backyard. Then, when you figure it's time for her to poop again, let her out in the yard. She's sure to go and sniff it and maybe it will help to give her the idea.

| My Dunkin is also much better on the leash. When he uses the back yard, I usually have to wait with him outside so he can see me. If not he just runs outside and runs back in ... usually has an accident in the house shortly after. |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Baggie up some poop while on your walk. Bring home & put it in the yard where you want her to go. Bring a neighbor dog into your yard & let him/her go in the spot. Once she gets the scent there, it should help. Neighbor dogs love to potty in other dogs yards. : )

| We had trouble with Chloe when she was younger. We didn't have a fenced in back yard so we would take her on her leash to let her go potty and she did. She just had a problem with pooping outside for some reason. I think it was probably because it took her so long to poop (finding a spot to or getting distracted) that we just got frustrated with her and brought her back inside. Now we got our fence about a month ago and the first 2 weeks she wouldn't go without someone being out there with her. She just looked inside the house from the door probably wondering why nobody was out there with her. So I would stand out there for a while to let her go potty and I'd go back in with her for a few days. I slowly started letting her stay out there by herself and she finally got it after about 2 and a half weeks. It was very strange for her though. lol... I think it will just take time. If she wont go off her leash then just stand out there with her until she goes and slowly go back into the house within a week. It will happen!! Don't give up!! I was just like you were when we first started the fence process! =]

| She did it!! She went in the backyard!! I knew she'd have to go really bad since we sleep in on the weekends, so I put her and Bandit outside and was ready to out-wait her. Since it wasn't a school day I knew I could. In 10 minutes she had peed and pooped outside! She did it this morning too!! She only seems to do it if she really has to go and knows we won't take her out for a walk, but we can do it!! Thanks for all the help guys! We left her little poop out there as a souvenir and so she'll remember for the next times. Hopefully she will keep learning! |
