Need help with 7-month old Yorkie We've had Jacob for almost a month. We have him pottying outside when we are home, but have a pee pad in the kitchen while he is in there during the day and nighttime. He pees on the pad (and poops sometimes) on the pad at night and day, but when we are home and let him outside (whether it is for 1 hour or 2), he will go poop inside the house (we usually catch him before he pees). We would like him to go potty outside while we are home and on the pad while we are away or it is nighttime. We were thinking maybe we were confusing him by having him peeing on the pad and going outside, but we were afraid if we take the pee pad away during the day and night, he will think it is always Ok to potty in the house. Does anyone have any suggestions?

| Have you considered crate training? Duke goes out side too. But he is in the crate just when I am gone and he sleeps with us at night. They usually will not go in their crate. This has worked very well for me.

Reply to jkatt We tried to crate train him when we first got him because the breeder said she crate trained him, but he just barked all night. We now let him sleep in the kitchen with our Miniature Schnauzer and he doesn't bark.

I have read that you should pad or outdoor train and not to mix the two...

What about putting a pee pad outside where you want him to go.

Your doing fine. Patience, it takes time. I have housebroken all my dogs and it seems yorkies take alittle more time. Crate training for night is great. He may have a few accidents, but will stop. If your gone for a long time during the day. The Laundry room, bathroom or a small room with poddy pads is just fine. That has not confused my dogs. Just be consistant and regular, your little guy is still young. He'll get it. Good Luck
