Potty problems I have a 10 yr old female who goes potty in the house even thought she is potty trained. She pees around her bowls and goes poop when she gets mad at me for leaving her at home. I take up her bowl everyday after she eats. Maybe I should remove the mat for her bowls. She also refuses to eat out of the bowl which maybe another subject for another time. Has anyone ever experienced this. No matter where here mat and bowl is she will always go potty there. Makes no sense. Please help!!!

Hmm...In my experience I'd have to say this is a learned behavior, since natural instinct for a dog is to defecate away from feeding areas. She is obviously doing this for a reason if this has become routine, so in order to correct the behavior we can either prevent it and/or replace it. First, how often do you clean the mat and the bowls? If she smells the urine/feces on these things she associates the smell with the action and thinks it's okay to go here. Also before you put down her bowls take her potty, potty pad or grass, and give her a treat when she goes. If she thinks she can get a treat when she goes potty in the correct place, she'll be less likely to squeeze one out in defiance. Good luck. =)

Thanks for responding!! I take her out before feeding her and she eats immediately afterwards. The only bowl she uses is for water. She won't eat her food out of a bowl. I take her water bowl up while I'm at work and that is when I come home and can tell she has gone to the bathroom right in front of the mat. It is like she is marking the area. Not sure if or how to discipline her. I will try cleaning the mat.

That sounds so familiar. Just have to find a way to stop the attitude when I leave. I do tell her in the morning if I am going to work and she seems to understand, but if I go somewhere else she will get mad. I take her out right before leaving and she finds a way to squeeze something out when she is mad.

| My auti does kinda the same thing as penpen when i leave her and go to wrk or a dr appt. i will come back and she will have the peepads with doodie dragging it around the xpen...i think she be on strike.. i caught her one day when i was going to take a shower and noticed soon as i put her in the xpen she started to take a dump and was biting the edge of the pad trying to get a grasp of it to pull it around but i stopped it quickly and i only leave her in there that long. when i go to wrk my mom comes to get her 1-2hrs later and i dnt be on dr appts no longer than an hour..I think its their way of saying "Hey I'll show you for putting me in here" or "Pay attention to me" OP i cant really give u advice on the suject i'm still new at training my pup but good luck.
