| Day 4 With Baby Bosco and A New Problem O.K... Bosco seems to be settling in and has bonded to me and his fur sister Emma. His first night in his crate he cried a bit and then went on to sleep, he did a little better the second night, the third night he woke up when I went to the bathroom and cried a bit, but went right back to sleep. LAST night, he woke up at 2:00 a.m. and started crying, I waited a minute for him to calm down and when he didn't I took him out to go potty. He went, I brought him in and then he cried, screamed, howled, shrieked and any other noise you couldn't imagine coming from a 3lb puppy. My feeling is that this has nothing to do with having to go potty...it has to do with not wanting to be in his crate. As soon as he's out of his crate he's a happy camper, right now he's sound asleep (wish I could say the same) under my desk as I type this. Not crating him at night and when I'm not at home is not an option, he gets into EVERYTHING .. I haven't done this much baby proofing since my 19 year old son was a baby. I'm wondering if I should put him in another room when he goes to bed so I won't wake him if I have to get up, but I have a feeling that not being near us will make it worse. Any suggestions? Thanks! |

| Is your other dog crate trained and in there at night too? Are they near each other? I had this problem when I got my new puppy last week. I had my new puppy in my room and my other dog in the hall. They both cried and cried. But once I figured that I would put them both in the hall they were fine. Also how long have you had your puppy? You shouldnt start to crate train them until you have had them for a week or so. Hope this helps!

I did find something that he loves, we had a temperpedic neck pillow that is rectangular with a well indented in the center. He LOVES to sleep on that while I'm at my desk. I thought about putting that in his crate, but because it is a foam, he might try to tear it up if he's unsupervised. Well we are a work in progress...I'll keep you posted! | |

| Potty training is more like "mommy training" at this point. I try to take him outside after he wakes up from a nap, after playing, eating, etc. and just about every 20 minutes or so. He goes outside and I praise him like crazy, but I haven't seen the lightbulb go off yet that says "hey, I'm only supposed to do this outside". If I mess up and miss one of his cues or someone else is watching him for a minute, he'll just go wherever he feels like it. It's only been 4 days though, I figure I'll be completely trained by next week...lol |
