You probably will get opinions of both sides of the fence about this topic.

For me, my experience with the puppy classes at Petsmart was a pleasant one. We had 8 weeks of lessons and really did learn alot. We really enjoyed it and it did help Ginger with her socialization and basic commands. Our class was a small one (6 pups total) and luckily the dogs were mostly small breeds like Ginger. There was one Boxer pup and a mix but they were leashed at all times and there was no problems whatsoever. All pups were super friendly... no growls or anything like that. Just alot of happy tail wagging and sniffing.

We were in the "Puppy Class". All of the dogs were young puppies so that did make a difference, I'm sure. If I had it to do again, I would. It was alot of fun!

I think it also depends on the individual trainer. Our trainer had been training for many years and really did a good job. I went in the store prior to signing up to meet her and kinda check her out. I wanted to see what she was all about - see how knowledgable she was. I could tell from the initial meeting that she would do a good job and she did. I even asked her what other dogs were signed up because I was worried about the size thing. She took out her list and shared that with me. It all ended working out just great!

My dog Gracie and I are in the beginners class at Petsmart. Gracie is a year old so we thought the beginner level would be best. I have a rather large class because it's on a Friday night. There are 7 other dogs but they are always on a leash. We usually learn one task a week to practice for the next class.

I'm glad we took the class. I think it helps socialize the dogs. We've learned how to sit, stay, "leave it", come when called and walk on a leash. I wasn't sure what to expect when I took the class but it's fun for you and your dog. I was afraid to be put on the spot and have to do things in front of people but it's not like that. This week is graduation and there will be a little ceremony complete with picture taking in a graduation hat. I would recommend it.

I work for petsmart, but my opinion isnt totally biased as i took training classes there way before i started working there. I liked the classes. My trainer did a really great job helping the pet parents out. He taught us the material, but also allowed for time for us to ask questions about things that werent covered in the class. Roman was very shy before his puppy training class. It helped socialize him so much! I really believe that if it werent for him being in the class he wouldnt be half as good with other dogs as he is now. With that being said, there are good and bad trainers everywhere. Petsmart has a satisfaction guarantee so if you dont feel you are clicking well with one trainer you can try taking the class again for free from another trainer. If you have any specific questions about the classes, you can ask me by reply or pm me and ill be happy to answer anything. I'll be honest too...im not on the clock! Plus im not a trainer, I work in the Petshotel part so i dont feel the need to sell you a class lol!

We did the training classes at Pet Smart and KiKi was quite small when she went through the beginners class..but we learned a lot and it helped me learn how to train her and it was VERY effective...KiKi is very well behaved and responds very well to the commnands learned at Pet Smart...I highly recommend it :-)

It was good for me being a first time pet owner. I believe it's only effective if you take those lessons home and do your homework but the socializing is a great plus.

I think we will consider these classes too. I have reading a lot about potty training and it seems that you have more success if the dog is trained to follow your instructions.

Terry is home with our dog spoiling her rotten while I am away due to a family crisis. I will look into these classes when we get back later next week. I am glad this thread got started!

Default Fun and afordable

Socialization, basic commands, potty training advice, and we learned something called a cradle massage: pick him up turn him over like a baby but do not look at him......play with his feet, his ears while ignoring him. This has been super helpful for when Louie goes after our poor cats (he is just playing but he is crazy sometimes). It also gets him used to having his feet and ears touched for cleanings and grooming.

8 weeks for 100.00 in CA is very reasonable plus if you have a conflict you can call and come in to a different class for the week OR get a private lesson with the trainer.

Louie is of course the cutest puppy in our class!

In Canada I think it was around $60. They offer $10 - $20 off training coupons all the time....ask before you register.

Sit, Stay, Come, leave it, and Heel, are some of the commands we learned.....and I wish I would have played with KiKi's feet when she was little...she hates to have them touched now and she whines like she is being murdered when we trim her nails now

The price is not listed because it depends where you live. You would have to ask for a training flyer. They usually put one in your bag when you buy something at my petsmart. In ohio its $109 for the eight week class. SOMETIMES they have coupons but i wouldnt say they have them all the time. Also of you buy those entertainment coupon books, i believe they one have coupon in there for training.

Wow, really? Do you know what class that is? I remember calling them to get information and pricing and it was $118 for a puppy/beginner class. (I'm in Ontario).
