| Indoor Potty Training - Where do they sleep??? Hi guys - I'm still struggling as to how I should potty train my new puppy (he arrives in 3 days so I'm basically freaking out). Now I'm thinking about indoor training, and I have a few questions. I understand setting up the area in a small enough place for a bed and his pee pad...but: ***Where does he sleep at night? Should he sleep in that area? Or in a crate next to my bed? Will putting him in the crate be confusing to him because he's only in it at night? And then should I just wait for him to whine during the night...and take him to his potty area when this happens? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks again for everyone's answers to my other questions on these forums - you guys are great! -John |

| Wow, I don't know if I can help you since I got my second puppy on Friday and we are in the throws of potty training. She is a stubborn little girl Anyway, check out the yorkie potty log thread since it is written by a bunch of YTalkers who are currently busy with potty training. Just for interest sake, June sleeps with us on my bed (this is how I want it) and spends the day in her pen when we can't supervise and the rest of the day she is either cuddling or running around with Cash (my older yorkie). Before she is allowed to play with us, she has to go potty. We don't have a garden, but we do have a balcony. We take her to a potty pad on the balcony and she isn't allowed to leave the pad unless she goes. I really hope this works - it worked last night, but today she is boycotting all of it. Good luck!

| My dog was pee pad trained and is now litter box trained (a litter box with a pee pad in it) When we first got him he slept in the bathroom (we got him when he was 8 weeks so he was too young to hold it all night). He had a crate but I took the door off, he would sleep in the crate and go to the bathroom, most of the time, on the pee pad but he was free to roam in the bathroom and would often just go wherever as the space was too big for him. As he got older (12 weeks old) he'd stay in his crate (locked) all night and go on in a litter box in the morning. His crate was in my bedroom and he'd cry and whine as early as 5 am to go to the bathroom, so we'd put him in the bathroom where his litter box was. I finally got tired of waking up at 5am and bought him a large crate (for a Chow Chow) and put his bed in there with his litter box. He'd sleep and pee when needed. Once he reached 10 months he started roaming around the house unsupervised and he's wearing a belly band around the house. Now he sleeps in bed with me. The rule is he's only allowed on the bed with a belly band after he's pooped. We use baby wipes to clean him (backside and paws!) He still wakes me up at night, so I take the belly band off and put him in his larger crate with his litter box. He's been very good and hasn't had an accident in my bed in 8 months. |

| My Tobi is 7 months and I still have problems with him going poop in the house.( Thank God I have tile in the house) As for pee he is doing good. I tryed training on pee pads and that did not go so well, so I turned to crate training and I love it. During the day I put him out every 30 mins and no poo or pee in the house.(Once in a while he does) As for night time I put him in the crate about 12:00 am and he stays in there all night long without waking up at all. The crate is right by my bed so he can see me. Its so hard to potty train. Another thing that works really good is treats! Only if he goes outside. YORKIE YUMMYS are the best!! Good luck to you. Keep me updated
