Good Rewards/ Treats Please, I need to get list of Good Rewards or Treats. Can Yorkies eat snacks that human eat as Treats. eg. Popcorn etc. Would rewards/ Treats really help with outside potty training?

What I would suggest for outside potty training is to use one specific treat that he loves and only use it for outdoors. This way he will look forward to going out knowing he's getting this special treat. I used, to train Buddy, liverwurst. He was trained in no time flat. He loved it. I did not give it to him anyother time and when he was trained I stopped altogether. It's high in fat but if you use tiny pieces it's fine. A trainer told me that trick. Or you can use little pieces of chicken.

For GOOD outside potty - I recommend Peanut Butter Chips (from the baking isle). They are soooooo small and sooooooo good - I guarantee they will work like a charm! BUT only for Good Potty Behavior, don't use this as any old kind of treat/snack

I give him liver treats in the house when he follows my command and when he does something good. Can I continue using liver treats or can I use something different like the peanut butter chips for pottying outside?

Liver treats are good too, but how big are they He might be getting too much of a treat. So something like the Peanut Butter Chip or a Cherrio is small enough for multiple potty rewards

I think it is very useful to use a specific treat that is only for outside potties, not for anything else. And make sure it is your dog's absolute favorite treat. Liver or chicken sounds like a great idea as well, but our refridgerator is on the other side of the house from the potty door, so refridgereated treats were kinda out of the question for us. We keep our little bag of PB chips up on a bookshelf right next to the potty door, grab two every time we take Nikko outside (the second one is for if he poops), and just put them back if he doesn't do any business on that trip. It is working great. Thank you TLC! Lauren & Nikko | |
