| Got a second puppy...didn't realize it was going to be a challenge. hi there- i picked up my new puppy tonight. i didn't realize how challenging it was going to be to train a puppy with a second dog in the house. for example, when it was feeding time, i placed my older dog's bowl in the usual spot and my new puppy's bowl right next to his. well, my older puppy, kenji, would eat his food and after he was done, he would go after my new puppy's food. my new puppy, kingston, would also go after kenji's food. how do i get them to eat from their own bowls. i'm currently feeding two different types of dog food. i don't want the mix in their food to cause an upset tummy. anyone have any advice? thanks so much!

Missing Yoshi Everyday! Donating Member | if that seems to be a probably maybe either put the new puppy in a playplen and feed him in there while the older one is eating in the usual spot or change to an all life stage kibble and they would have the same food.

YT 2000 Club Member | We feed each of our babies in their own crates. Prissy who is 6 years old has always had her food in her crate and our new little one, Jasmine, who is 10 weeks old, is being trained that way also. Our vet. adviced us to do that when we first brought Prissy home. It has worked out great. They love their crates because that is were they eat and also that is were they get to get away when they want "down time". Of course, everyone does things differently, but this is what works for us.

| We started out feeding them in different rooms. Then slowly we got to the same room..... but about 10 ft apart. We never "share" food bowls, but we do share a water bowl.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I always fed my pom in the kitchen and the yorkies in my bedroom. With a new one I would feed her in her crate. It gets easier, hang in there.

| I'm no help. I have 4 inside dogs, they have their food down from the time I get up in the morning until around 6:00 p.m when I pull it up for the night. They all eat out of the same food bowl and it works out great for me. They just grab kibble whenever they want it. I have them all on TOTW which is for all life stages |

| We feed ours out of the same bowl as well and haven't had any problems. Sometimes they will both go grab some food take it away and chew it and then go back for more. |

| There is no way that you are going to get two dogs to eat out of separate bowls It's possible to train them but you're talking some serious training to get your pups to do that esp since you're giving them two different foods you're going to have to separate them for mealtimes until your pup is old enough to eat the same food

YT Addict | you have to make sure that they eat in different areas. We have three nig dogs and two little ones on the way...Our three big dogs eat in all different parts of our kitchen. They all have their own corner. Better that way and no fighting over food. |

He kinda hesitated though. He looked at me to see if he would get in trouble. When he heard me say, "No!" he backed off. Occassionaly he would try to sneak in a sniff, but he would stop as soon as I looked at him.

YT Addict | You just have to keep after him. They always want what they can't have...lol.. But just watch them. That is all. When your older one is finished maybe you could make him leave the room until the other one is done. I have done that too. That works! |
