Question about the crate time. Am I correct that we just ignore - not tell her "noooo" or anything - when she whines? Would it be good to move her to another room when she whines? We have NEVER rewarded her with letting her out or speaking to her at this point and time. :thankyou2 Tracie |

since the last post on 3/4..charlie had an accident last night in the kitchen. I was making lemonade and charlie was there with me. He was sniffing around..then all of a sudden ran to the living room. I happen to look down on the floor and there was a puddle on the floor. Of course, DH saw it and yelled at me for not watching charlie. ARgh. I need to start the 30 day of accident free training too. |
Well, we might be getting the potty thing down, but not all the way yet. ;) We thought she was on "empty" but she surprised us by running to the pad and going potty! Yay!! The poop thing is not even close yet, but it is easier to deal with - if you don't step in it! LOL Today, only one accident in our bedroom while I was making my bed. She had already gone at 2am, 5am and 7:30am, so I thought she was empty. Tracie and :aimeeyork Penny |
Tobie is potty trained but lately he has been pooping in the house in the morning. Daddy take him out before he lives for work, we live in an apt. on the 2nd floor, he will go pee and then he just runs up the stairs and is ready to go in. Well once daddy leaves for work he poops on the floor, I ask my boyfriend if he waitslong enough for Tobie go number 2 and he says he does but Tobie will just go up the stairs and even with his leash on he will just stand at the end of the steps waiting to go up. He has never done this before until about 2 weeks ago and I have no idea why he is starting to do this. |
We were doing so good! We were working on day 4, then she pood on DHs shoes (couldnt help but laughing!) But the ODDEST thing was, we went outside on our patio, she had her lovely dig fest... She had to tinkle, so she went INSIDE to her pee pee pad, and tinkled there  As if the lovely grass and dirt wasnt suitable for her  |
It's common for dogs to prefer to go indoors, particularly for #2 - it's a vulnerable position, and they often prefer a nice, quiet spot with some comfy carpet to squat on. Thor just marked the wall next to the potty pad. :( He was definitely aiming for the wall and not the pad, because he squatted on the pad just a few minutes ago. We were doing so well! Do I have to re-start the count? This will be our ninth day if we keep going. Sometimes I think Thor is actually a genius and enjoys toying with me. |
Potty training tips I find that it is the owner who gets potty trained first. They have such tiny little bladders. I have a 16 year old and I let her and the pup out about every 2 hours. Trouble is it is so cold out now they dred going out in the wind and snow. Night time is fine pup cuddles up and sleeps for 6 to 7 hours. AS THEY GROW SO DO THEIR BLADDERS. Some of the quiet dogs never bark or whine to go out. I fel it is a partnership and kenneling does work. The pea pads are halarious as chase him as he is shreading it to pieces.........fun times ahead! |
I am still having problems with Abby messing in her crate!! I got up Monday morning to take her out and there it was....... a long poop on her blanket and a spot of pee!!:eek::eek::eek: Her crate is small. I am so frustrated and found myself in tears cleaning her crate. I hate to think that she is a "dirty" dog.:( I have never had this problem with any of the other Yorkies I had. I got her when she was 12 weeks old and the breeder did NO training what so ever. :( She will be 7 months old this Thursday. Does anyone else have a puppy this age that does this? |

We're still accident free. This is so cool! |
if you know where she is gonna pee or poo just put down an extra pad.. I have 2 14 week old pups and I have a corner in the living room with 6 pads in one square area. sometimes the male needs to walk around while doing his poo thing and it's better than having to clean up after them all the time. my female has dinglebrries too and the same goes for her, most of the time they fall off before she gets off the pads. HAVE FAITH.. I actually taught my BLIND 15 yr old to use the pads in about 3 days. she had very few mistakes unless she was facing the wrong direction when she sqwatted But she did have her fet on the pad but couldn't see where she waz standing. she could sense where the pads were. I have only had the male since 2/27 and he is progressing pretty well witht the poo and goes without even being told. so proud of him this past week... She is doing better evceryday and most always goes poo on the pad. Good Luck , they WILL learn what to do. The lady th Sharonat had the big house and new yard area, they DO have doggie doors for slider doors, ck on line for more info...Good Luck to ALL of you... |
I have a couple of questions, maybe I just out of the loop since I didn't have a baby for a little over a yr and just got 2 puppies. But what is a DH?????? and where is all the info about marking and this 30day rule thing coming from???? I have had Yorkies for 32 yrs and haven't heard of the 30day thing. as for marking, that is something males do to mark their territory usually on the leg of something a bed table etc. even on the corner of a bedspread. Mine have done this when we have left them alone, but not a regular thing. I have done alot of reading on training your dog in 7 days, seems to be working for me pretty much. I never give the puppies run of the house, we have the doorways to other parts of the house blocked off. They need to be contained to keep an eye on them. They sleep together in a 24"crate but have free roam in the living room with us the rest of the time. they usually run to the area I have set up for them with 6 pad to do their business. I would appreciate someone PM to me with the DH? or other questions... Good Luck.. SHaron |
We thought we were going to have a success day number 1, and then this evening she made a puddle on the carpet in my office, just after she got a treat for the pad, and then escaped when I opened the office door and when I saw what room she came out of, there was poo on the floor. :( On the up side, she went both wee and poo a few minutes ago on the pad! That is a first!! There is hope. Tracie and :aimeeyork Penny |

She seems to be soooo picky! If there are more than 3 spots, she wont go on the darned thing! But WONT go outside. She comes INSIDE, frantic while walking, comes inside, tinkles, then goes back out  Ive noticed she only poos places when mad. DH wouldnt give her attention when she wanted it, so she turned around and immediately pood on his shoes!!! She did this to my son too, because he was dragging his blanket around and refused to touch her! So she pood on the blanket  |
potty training I have two trained yorkies over to play and let them all out and pup does all the right things when they are here. |
Quicksilver, maybe instead of officially restarting the count, you can kinda change the way you report progress... Like, you can now say "Thor has only had x accidents over the last y days, and he's had zero accidents at all over the last z consecutive days!" And if you want, you could throw how 'close' he was when he had those accidents. That's what I'd do anyhow, lol. A little potty algebra, whoohoo. :p Nikko has only had two accidents in about a month and a half, and he's ONE DAY AWAY from having made it a full 30 consecutive days with no accidents! Tomorrow will also mark 7 days since his neuter, and he can finally stop wearing the onesies and feel free to lick his junk again. He's a happy doggie, and we're feeling like pretty happy parents right now too. :-) I really have no right to be complaining, but one thing that's driving me nuts is his obsessive need to be outside all the time. Here lately, we've been just leaving the door to his fenced potty zone open during the day while it's warm, or else we'd be going to open the door for him every two minutes. I wish we had a sliding glass door, so we could get a cool doggie door for him... hm. I've even had thoughts about forefiting my rental deposit so we can cut a hole in the regular door and put an old-fashioned doggie door in it, lol. He's just not satisfied unless he is constantly able to go outside, then back in, then back out, then back in, all the time. Even at night when it's cold, he wants to go out, then he immediately realizes it's freakin' cold and he doesn't actually have to pee, so he scratches at the door to come back in. Lauren & Nikko |
Yaaaay, Lauren and Nikko! You did it! I've decided not to re-start the count. We all know how Thor can demonstrate his disagreement if he wishes. I think his intentions were good. He was next to the pad, and looking straight at me. "Look, Mommy! I'm peeing on the wall, just like you taught me! Time for peanut butter!" Also, I moved the pad and Thor moved his business with it, so he knows it's the pad, not the place. That was important to me. We're close to two weeks! |
Wow after reading every post on here I now see that I am not the only one suffering with potty training but I still don't know what to do.. Roxy is in the kennel now but now I'm thinking its to big for her because she poops and then plays with it like its a toy in her kennel WTH lol!!!! I work a 9 1/2 hour day so I am only able to go home for 30 mins so I figured I'd cut the 9 1/2 hours and go at lunch to check on her...What suggestions does anyone have to block off the kennel. I don't think a cardboard is good because she is in her I want to bite everything in site mode... I don't know if I'm doing this crate training right :confused: She is only 3.5 months old.. I wanted to get a head start for my father since I'm going on vacation and he is going to watch her for me... |
Our dear :aimeeyork Penny is so unpredictable! She goes most of the time on her pad, but the out of the blue goes somewhere else. This morning she did BOTH potty and poo on the pad, then an hour later she left another set elsewhere.:( Oh well, I forgot to mention that this morning was the FIRST time she left poo on the pad. :) So no complaints really, just expressing my lack of understanding her dog brain. :rollingey |
Am I allowed to brag here? I don't usually but this amazed me! I'm not sure what day we're on but still no accidents from Curly Mac and we've opened her up to 2 rooms now instead of just the one. Anyway, I wasn't well yesterday and was laying down, nursing a migrane. Curly was up there on the bed with me, playing and cuddling a bit. Then she was walking around and I didn't look because it hurt to open my eyes but then I heard a bump! Curly Mac jumped down off the bed, which is a bit high, and ran to the bathroom to pee on her wee wee pad!!! A couple weeks ago, she pissed right on my bed a couple times, crapped on my sons bed and didn't think a thing about it! How proud am I of this little bugger?!?! |

I have noticed Katy does pretty well unless we change routine. Simple things like me taking her to the kitchen to eat, etc. This morning my husband went to the kitchen to get our coffee (we read the paper in bed) and it upset Katy and she peed on the hardwood floors. On another subject, I bought her a doggie stroller and she LOVES it! I was worried she wouldn't like it. The first one to make it 30 days with no accidents should get a prize. Good luck. One day at a time.. |
I am SOOOOOO depressed!! |

We are here for you to unload. Most of us here are all fighting the same battle on this thread. These little hard headed buggers (:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork's) are worth it, that is what we have to keep in mind. |

OK now I have a weird potty situation  Chloe goes on potty pads and Sydney goes outside...well tonight Sydney seemed to realize that Chloe doesn't have to leave the house to pee...so Sydney walks over and pees on Chloe's potty pad  Well when Chloe pees it's a small amount being she's so tiny...but Sydney is 10 lbs. so she left a hugh pee spot and then Chloe wouldn't get on the pad with Sydney's pee on it...( can't blame her there) SO ....how do I train a dog not to use a potty pad when her sister is :rolleyes: Oh Lordy , just when its going good...hopefully it was just a one time " I have to pee so bad I can't wait " deal on Syd's part. She has never tried to use a potty pad and never showed any intrest in Chloe's pad till tonight. She's been trained to potty outside for years and it's like she just went..."hey , why does SHE get to pee in the house?" Good luck everyone...Thor and Nikko sound like they are doing really well :D |
Quicksilver, the moving the pad thing sounds like really good news! I think other people have already suggested this, but have to tried putting something in the middle of the pad? Or are you just counting on him learning that squatting is the thing to do on pads. He's doing so well at least getting to the pad, I'm honestly really impressed he squats there the majority of the time instead of just lifting his leg every time (or at least more often). Bloody good news, mate. :-) Chloesmama, lol I don't know what to tell you, but personally I think it's awesome! Just shows how smart Sydney is, if you ask me! Hopefully it won't become a regular thing, and she'll just use it when she's extra lazy, lol. Sometimes I wish I had some way to be lazy when I have to pee in the middle of the night.... :p Lauren & Nikko |
Actually, no, I hadn't thought about putting something in the middle of the pad. What do you suggest? Thor's hilarious on the pad. He does just as much circling and sniffing on his little 2 x 2 square as he would on a full city block. Sometimes he's really close to the edge, but 99% have been totally on the pad. Oh, and he's finally resorted to completely fake pees. I guess the two dozen times he's already going per day do not provide him with enough access to the refrigerator. It's like he's an addict! He was soooooo sad when I didn't give him a treat just for squatting. At some point, I'm going to have to stop giving him treats for every little drop. Should I start weaning him off now, or wait until the end of thirty days? I'm worried at that point he'll be shocked if his treats dry up. For Chloesmama, I have to agree with lemonlauren, it sounds like Sydney is thinking outside of the box, as it were. Does he get a treat for going outside? I assume Chloe is still going indoors because she's too young for outdoors training? I'm not sure what the best solution is, but I'm thinking if Sydney only gets treats outside, he'll give up on the indoor peeing. He's trying to diversify his treat stream. :) |
Well, I've seen cute little fake fire hydrants on sale for this purpose, but lmao that seems a little over the top to me. I think a few people on here have suggested filling a plastic soda bottle of some sort (I don't know what size) with rocks, and sitting that up in the middle of the pad. I think even human males will agree that peeing is more fun when there's something to aim at, and it certainly motivates them to be more accurate! The only issue some have had is that their boys decide that the rock-filled soda can is a toy that needs to be drug around around the room, not a stationary object that's convenient to pee at... dunno how Thor would feel about it, but I suppose you could try it. Then I guess you'd just rinse it off every so often? Ha - I don't know. :-) Fake pees are funny, and I think it's awesome that Thor is catching on so well that he has developed the idea to try faking. After we caught on that Nikko was starting to fake, we never rewarded them and his fakes diminished quickly (though he still tries one every once in awhile, just to keep us on our toes). I don't have any idea what to do about the excess of tiny pees though... Nikko does the same thing. If he's bored and I'm not paying as much attention to him as he wants, he'll go ring the bell every few minutes to be let out (if the door isn't open), and he'll pee for me almost every time too, but only teeny bits. I'm at a loss too. It's only been today, our day 30, that I've finally gotten brave enough to ignore some of his bell rings when I am 110% positive he's already pooped and he must have already gotten all his pee out thanks to five outside trips in the 10 minutes before, lol. If you really want to do something, maybe give him a bit of food as his treat occasionally instead of his tasty treats, but at this stage I would be scared to stop treating at all for any of his "good" pees. We just started giving YYs occasionally for potty treats instead of the peanut butter chips all the time, and I hope to gradually switch over to his food maybe? I don't know, we'll see.
