Right now Marley is only 3 months old and he squats to pee. I've heard that after you have them neutered (at 6 months of age) that they won't hike their leg to pee. Is this true?? |
I was thinking about the same thing. My male was a squatter. My D's dog is a squatter. I can't imagine a male yorkie lifting his leg in the house. We got both of ours fixed at around six months. My friend's yorkie was always a leg lifter, even as a puppy. He peed on her sofa, bed , walls till she got him trained which was about never. How do you get a squatter or keep a dog squatting. Loved my male, but don't think I could deal with a leg lifter. |

In general, if you neuter a dog early enough, he will not lift his leg. It's not a hard and fast rule though, and it's not that uncommon for female dogs to lift their legs, particularly if they are not altered. |

Started Marley's 30 pee/poo free days today Well it's 2:15 p.m. and this is Marley's first day on his 30 day schedule and so far so good. Of course I'm keeping him on a leash right next to me and if I'm not able to watch him constantly, he goes into his crate. I have also have a parrot and I keep newspaper in front of his cage because the first thing that he does when I let him out is poop in the floor. I was watching Marley last night and he got on Quincy's newspaper and pooped. When he finished, I pretended that I didn't see him do it. Then he turns around and goes back over to the newspaper and starts pushing around the paper with his nose until he covered it up. It was so cute!!! I wish I had caught it on video. He's very smart. He knew that he wasn't suppose to poo in the house and tried to hide it from me....LOL. |
Penny update.... Today we were out of town all day and just got back. We left Penny loose in my office with two wee pads. :):):) She did everything on the pads!! :):):) We are so pleased with her! I actually only think it is day two, because we had to start over, but hey she did GREAT. :D |
Marley update Well Marley blew day one. I had him on his leash and took him into the kitchen. I turned my head long enough to get a glass out of the cabinet and when I turned back around he had peed in the floor!! He only had one accident today and that's pretty good for him. |
Back to day 0. :( While we were eating lunch, she walked over to her pad and walked right off the end and wet the floor. :confused: We are going to get a Pet Loo eventually, so I think if she has to step up 6' to go potty, maybe she will stay there. Of course, we have to start the potty training all over again to get her want to go on the Loo when it gets here. :eek: |
Marley update 2 Attachment(s) Well we are back to square one again. Marley did a sneak pee on me again today. I've read some posts about belly bands and so today I decided to get out my sewing machine and make Marley one. It took less than an hour to make and so far has been well worth it. He hates it though. He walks around sliding against the wall trying to get it off....LOL. He is really ticked off at me about it. I took this picture of him today. He has NEVER gotten into his toy basket before. I guess he's trying to show me that his is really upset with the belly band thing. |
Awwww, poor doggie! Being super-cute isn't going to get that belly band off, though. This situation calls for lots of barking. ;) Thor is sailing through Day 3. The obsessive peeing has calmed down a bit too. He still goes over a dozen times a day, but not MUCH more. It's definitely under 20 times per day. Hey, it's progress. |
OMG I LOVE Thor's new avatar pic! Very cute! Curly is doing great lately. No accidents and has free run of the bus unless we have to leave her for a short time. Then she stays in the bathroom but still, no messes. I'll have to go back and count the days, I'm not sure how long it's been now but man, it's been NICE! I certainly hope I didn't just jinx us again lol. |
OK...starting day one today! Just want to clarify, what counts as an accident. Daisy is using pee pads. Sometimes when pooping, she wanders off of the pad. Does it still count if she started on the pad and atempted? With pee she has it down! It's the poop, she moves it in her x-pen. Starts on the pad and then she moves it off. So my question is, must all poop be on the pad???? haha..what a conversation this is!!! |

We have quit counting until we get the Mini Loo, hopefully next month some time. Right now we are trying to slowly move the pad in the office toward the kitchen so that by next month there will only be one place for her to go. We made a mistake having two areas we found out. Now she will go where the pad used to be in the office. :( So we are going to move it a few inches a day instead of a foot a day toward the kitchen. She is having accidents every day since we started moving the pad around. |

Well the 13 week old baby is doing pretty good.:rolleyes: Sometimes!! He has good days and then he has his," I am going to pee all over this place" days. Today is one of the later!!:confused: But with that cute little face, how can you get mad. Although today, as I was going into my room, I definitely smelled something in the air, or should I say on the carpet! |
Okay i have a 11 week old we are doing the litter box thing instead of pee pads because in past experiences just teaches them to use the rugs. She is not in a crate she has her own little room, a closet we converted over to her, She is in it all day long while we are at work and she does fine never once gone on the floor always uses her litter box. When we get home we make her go pee before she can get out which takes about 5 mins or so. Then she runs around the house like a crazy dog so excited and then poops on the floor. We have tried to keep her in her room longer but she refues to go, we have tried letting her run for a few mins then go back to her room again refues to go, as soon as we are not looking she poops on the floor we have caught her about the poop carry her to her room and she still wont go even if we make her stay in there for 30 mins to an hour as soon as we let her out she will go on the floor. From readin all these post I know everyone is having problems with it but is there any sucess stories? What do yall do when yall catch them in the act of going on the floor? I give her a treat when she goes in the litter box when I tell her. When I catch her going on the floor I tell her No no and take her to her litter box and tell her "Go Potty" I even carry it with me and put it into the litter box while telling her this. Just any suggestions yall have tried that seem to work would be great. I know it will be a long process but just want to start it out right. Thanks |
I can't say we have 100% success with this Jewly, but we have a good deal of success. ;) We tell her "no" and pick up the poop and put it on the pad and say, "This is where it goes. Poop on the pad and be a good girl!" Crazy as it sounds, we give her a treat for US putting on the pad. LOL I don't know if that is why she started going on the pad 97% of the time or not. If she doesn't go on the pad, it is usually near the pad or back in our bedroom because we "thought she was on empty" and there is not a pad back there. :rolleyes: Others with more experience here may really chime in that we are completely crazy!! :p Oh, I forgot to mention that she is 7 months old and has been with us for 3 weeks. She went all over the place when we got her. |

Thor doesn't have a belly band. I'm still dreaming of the day when I can say he is 100% trained. Right now he is confined to my living room, and if he follows me to the kitchen or something I try to keep him in my sight at all times. If he gets to Day 5, I'll give him access to the hallway, and after that, the bathroom. I'm not sure how others are using the belly band, so maybe they can add their experiences. I can't claim to be a success story yet, but I am hoping! I believe that laurenlemon's boy Nikko is now officially trained. He finished up his thirty day trial a couple weeks ago. |
Mr. Clean Well Louie is doing really well with the potty pads: we cut them in half and put them into a plastic storage container that we cut the front off of. BUT he will NOT poop and pee on the same pad so we have added another pad behind the living room chair and so far that has worked. I left him in the kitchen for the first time the other day with a potty pad in it's little box, his entire toy box, water, bed and a chew toy. We came home to a dirty pad that he was disgusted with and nearly shredded PLUS 3 different spots on our kitchen tile. Louie has some seperation issues. argg |
Help!!! I have a five month old yorkie name Bella Beau.:love: I am in desperate need of advice. This is my first indoor puppy so I am new to the potty training thing. I have been trying to train her to use a pad. If I keep her in the bathroom (vinyl floor covering), with the pads out, she will pee on the pad everytime she has to go. In my bedroom, (carpet), well that is another story. She will use the pad about 1/3 of the time she has to go. When I take her to work with me, (tile floor),she will not use a pad at all. What is the deal? If she will use the pad 100% in one area, why not in another? :confused: |
Maybe she's id'd the area she can go, but doesn't realize that she should be looking for pads. Here's what I would try: next time she goes on the pad, blot some of her other pads with her pee and put those out. She may recognize where she's supposed to go by smell. You can put one in a plastic baggy and take it to work with you. I know that sounds kind of gross, but I've actually done this. Also, you should limit her roaming area. When she goes on the pad, praise her extravagently and give her a treat. When she goes somewhere other than the pad, interrupt her and take her to the pad to finish up. If she is having accidents you don't notice until after the fact, she needs to either be confined to a smaller area or be monitored more closely. I know this is easier said than done. Thor can go quick as lightning. I've seen him pee in literally 1/2 a second. He'll be walking along and his legs go wide for one stride, and boom, he's done. If you don't have your eyes right on him, you'll miss it. I think that's why crates and xpens are so helpful training yorkies, because it's really easy to miss their accidents. |

And.....back to Day 1 we go!!! And believe me when I tell you the tray does not always keep them on the pad!!! And if her pad gets soiled while I am at work her new trick is to drag out the pad and pee in the tray! |

Back to day one with Marley. This is so frustrating!! I've been keeping a belly band on him for the last couple of days and it seems to be working but he hates it and I feel really bad about making him wear it. When I tried without the belly band, I couldn't always tell when he had to go pee. I would think he was sitting down sometimes when actually he was peeing. He had one accident while wearing the belly band and that's it. Am I wrong in making him wear it all the time?? Need some input here. |
I am afraid if there were 2 pads...then the pee area is bigger...and then she will think she can pee anywhere! I wish there was a pee pad dispenser. Then when she got one dirty she could push a button with her little paw and a new one would shoot out!! |
