| ![]() My male, Harley, is over 5 yrs old and 'marks'. He goes outside freely through the doggy door along with Angel allthrough the day and goes #2 out there always. BUT....if I leave the belly band off when he's inside...I'll always find a little sprinkle somewhere. Often on the kitchen trash can or in my bathroom on the side of the tub. Just a sprinkle. So I had to learn to make belly bands just for him. Angel, my female got the idea completely just about 1 yr old and never has accidents. nopee.jpg

| ![]() So I just got my baby Marley on the 15th of March. This is how potty trainging is going, just wanted some input from all you experienced yorkie owners. I am active duty military and have to work from 7 in the am and dont get home until a little after 4:45. I take her out first thing in the morning until she goes and i come home at lunch and take her out for about 25 minutes and then inside until its time for me to get back to work. I feel awful for making her hold it but when i get home i take her out at least every 2 hours but she doesnt always go. the four or 5 days that i have had he though shes had like maybe 2 accidents where she pooed on the floor in the morning but fault myself for that bc i dont think i took her outside long enough. I give her one cheerio for everytime she uses the potty outside, its usually totally 2 cheerios ![]() ![]() |

| ![]() I have only had marley for about a week but she went in her crate a few times before i think she realized that it wasnt too happy about it. I had to wash her bedding 2 times bc she peed on it. This only happened the first 2 days i had her. After that she has gone one time in her cage on the piddle pad that i put in there. I blame that on myself bc i was really tired and didnt take her out for the full 20 minutes that she usually gets right b4 i got to bed at 9:30ish. And then the other time i cut her time outside short bc i was going to be late for work and she went on the carpet. ( She pooped both times) other than that she has been amazing, holding it all day until i get home even though she has a huge cage with a piddle pad in it. on lunch i go home to let her out and when i get home at around 4:45pm. I dont know but i think i am blessed with a quick learner. I take my Marley out every two hours once im home and when she starts to get quiet and act "funny" , like shes saying " mommy i hafta use the potty" .. when i was taking her out every hour she wasnt even goin everytime ![]() |

| ![]() Mr Belvedere has been a serial pee-everywhere-guy. He's even been known to pee on his bed in his crate because he KNOWS that it means he'll be able to get out of his crate. He's stood in his crate and raised his leg and wizzed all over while staring at me straight in the eye... It's been almost a week and he's been perfect! He's been pooping half in/half out of his litter box however I believe this was due to his box being flush against two walls, I've moved it since then. He's been sleeping in my bed for 1/2 the night before he comes over and kisses me awake (at 3 am!) so I take his belly band off and he returns to his crate without a fight. I'm so proud of him, he's been doing so well. He still wears a belly band 24/7 when he's out of his crate or xpen, but he's only messed in it two times in three weeks. I'm so proud of him! |

| ![]() I've been checking this thread. I am totally new to this belly band. I understand that the bands have an absorbant pad in them to soak up the urine, but if a dog wears one doesn't that impede the housebreaking process? Or, is this a device that trains the dog not to pee because when he does, he is really peeing on himself. Please explain. Thanks

bfforever, I haven't used a belly bad, but my understanding is yes, a belly band tells a dog that it is okay to pee indoors. However, I have also heard that many male dogs do not like the sensation of having a wet belly, so they may train themselves not to use it. We're on Day 2, going strong....

| ![]() I am pulling for you and Thor! It is only 6:30 am, but Penny did business in the correct place this morning. We are hoping for a "day 1" today. We might have to leave her all day tomorrow. If we do leave her home alone, we think we will try letting her stay in my office (3 car carport converted to a sun room) running free. ![]() ![]() Last edited by ParrotLady; 03-20-2009 at 03:40 AM. |

| ![]() I gave up on crate training for the time being because I am going away for a week and I didnt want to confuse Roxy on potty times. My dad is going to watch her and I know he wont take her outside at 530am like I do. So now she's actually been doing good on the pee pads. A few accidents here and there but I blame myself I take away her pad to get a fresh one and oops there she goes. LOL!!! I need advice on how I should start the crate training she is going on 4 months and all this bending down to clean up is killing my back ![]()

| ![]() My Marley is 3 months old and I'm also having problems with potty training. I'm trying to train him to go outside. Occasionally he will go to the door and scratch (but that is very rare.) I try to keep a close eye on him but evidently not close enough. This morning I pulled my couch out away from the wall and found poo behind it! He hid and did his business without me knowing it!! I take him out at least once every 2 hours if not more often. I keep food down for him all the time because he sort of nibbles at it all day long. I'm wondering now if I should only put it out for him at certain times of the day or to continue like I'm doing??? Right now I have him on a leash and he is sleeping. Has anybody else tried leaving them on a leash so that you know where they are at all times?? I'm at my wits end!!

| ![]() I too would like one day without an accident. I have guilt because I have to go to work. I wish I could bring her and her pee pad with me! But I can't. I work in a zoo gift store and they have a strict not outside animals policy. ![]() She is a naughty girl while Mommy is at work. Plays with her poo sometimes, chews the pee pad sometimes, removes the pee pad sometimes from the tray... I think she is bored. She is only unattended in her xpen for 4-5 hours while my boyfriend sleeps(he works 3rd shift). She is great at night, goes right to the pad in my living room. Sometimes her poo starts out on the pad butthen she wanders while going and misses but the intent was there! Anyway, I am hanging in there, I guess with time, she will get better! |

Thor's Human Donating Member | ![]() ARGH. Thor pooped off the pad for the first time in three weeks! I was replacing one of his pads and I found him mid-poop about a foot away from the other pad. One end was already touching the floor, so I can't count it as a correction. I suspect he started on the pad and then strolled off. Also, his aim is getting more and more erratic. I would say ~30% of his pees end up being partially off the pad. Maybe I need to get a little fire hydrant after all. This is so frustrating!

Second, I would put food out for him 3 times a day until he is older, but not all day long. For some dogs this helps you know when they might go poo. (My dog is just now getting a little more predictable and she gets food twice a day.) Third, ![]() | |
