| Doggie Door Hi everyone. I just got my sweet little boy (Dexter) a few weeks ago. He's 14 weeks old and is shocking doing fairly well with the potty training so far.. The past 3 or 4 days we had no accidents .. but when I am home he is glued to my side so he doesn't really have a chance to mess up ;-) We are training him to go outside and have put a bell on the door that is low enough for him to hit when he wants to go outside.. the problem is he hits it all the time.. both when he wants to go outside to use the potty and to play... so...... my question is.. How many of you use a doggie door and how much did it help with your potty training? I am in Texas so we don't normally have weather that gets too cold .. and he LOVES to run around the back yard (we have medium sized fenced in back yard) |

| Good question! We have had bell abuse issues off and on as we're working on training Nikko... it's so aggravating!!! I would love to have a doggie door someday, when we hopefully own a house instead of rent and don't have to worry about getting our safety deposit back for the ruined door. I'd love to learn more about how people with doggie doors train their dogs to use it (and not be afraid of it, too, just in case). Someday we'll have one! Lauren & Nikko |

| With 5 dogs, it would be quite difficult for me to take them out for a walk to go to the bathroom all the time. So I have put in a doggy door and love it. I have a ramp that goes from the back door to an enclosed area for them to go to the bathroom. It has made it alot easier for me to train them. And as I got a new puppy, the others would teach her. She would follow them right out the doggy door. It was hard at first for Raindrop, because she was so small. But she is 4 lbs now and does real well with the doggy door. My neighbor has one for her cats. She has a screened porch and the doggy door goes right out to it. (I guess in her case it's a kitty door) So they get to go out and get some fresh air.

| I have 5 dogs too! We have a doggie door and the yorkies use it now too! At first when they were little (puppies) they were trained on the pads because it was cold when we got them, but before long they started following the others out and the rest is history. I love having the doggie door...if i didn't i would be opening and closing the door all day!

| I would love to put a dog door in for our two boys but my DH won't let me. He is a police and has seen too many break ins (with the little dog doors they robbers will kick the walls out and apparently have the opening makes it easier).

| Hi everyone...This is my first post! I have an eight week old yorkie that I brought home at 4 weeks & 6 days old. The mom had a medical emergency & the pups had to be placed immediately! Anyway she was immediately following my 6 year old boxer to the doggie door. She would jump & jump to try to make it out the door behind him. I started helping her thru the door & at 6 weeks she had mastered it! The doors are great as long as you have a secure yard for them. Glad to be here... |

| I am interested in a pet door for Leia. I see at Walmart there are plastic and aluminum. The aluminum small door cost is about $50. Seems high? Anyone have some pics? PS, don't mean to hijack the thread. |

| thanks all.. I am so excited to get one.. I thinking that it just might be the answer for us. Dexter rings my poor little bell all the time .. so I never know if he is playing or if he really needs to go out. We are going out of town next weekend.. so Dexter is going to stay with my parents..so I think we will wait until we get back to install it and start teaching him how to use it. |
