| HELP! Piper chews up the pee pad everytime!!! Hi, My 4.5 moth old Piper chews up the pee pad into a million little pieces everytime!! The first 3 days we tried them...she went on them (when we weren't home, so I couldn't praise her)...and she didn't chew them up... Now...everytime she tears them up!! I tried one of those gagets from Petsmart to keep it in place...but it was made to cheaply the pieces wouldn't stay together!! Please help..I really want to pad train her... the days she didn't tear them up...our 2 year old shorkie, Rocky was starting to use them... but now I can't leave one out because she'll just rip it up!! I know it's her not Rocky because when were at home and she doesn't think we're looking she goes right for it!! What can I do?? Last edited by Piper2008; 11-27-2008 at 09:20 AM. |

Thor's Human Donating Member | Some dogs love to chew them. Maybe you could try newspaper for a while? You could also redirect her chewing, which would be beneficial anyway. Sit her near the pad with an appropriate chew toy. Correct her if she tries to chew the pad, replace with the toy. Praise effusively. You may also need to closely supervise her now. Do you have a crate / baby gate, etc for when you're out? |

| I bought the heavy duty holder...it snaps down so they can't tear the ends , and it's much easier to work with. I also bought 'bitter apple' spray at petsmart and sprayed the pads very lightly with that. and that worked very well.

| Lily chews pads too so I got her "washable ones" and she does great on them. |

| We only used pee pads when we were at work. Yep, Bailey chewed one up everyday. I just accepted the fact that I can't potty train when I'm not there - so I cleaned up her space everyday. She quit chewing the pads when she was about 6 mos old. Good luck!

| My Piper totally ruined every pee pad put down from the day 1. I remember the breeder telling me that this was the first litter she ever had that would shred every pee pad put in the pen. She wasn't exactly sure who was the culprit. I now know it had to be my little girl. I also bought the pee pad holder and she would dig until it came out of the holder and then she would chew it up into a million pieces. After that I tried newspaper in the holder and that worked all right for a day or 2 and then she started digging until the paper shredded. I finally gave up and trained her to go outside. I was lucky since it was summer and it was a joy to be outside with her. She is 7 months old now and I like to think she is house broken but I know if I don't really watch her she"ll have an accident. Just recently I knew I would be gone for most of the day so I decided I would try a pee pad again. What's the worst thing that could happen? She didn't have one accident but the pee pad was in a million pieces.
