| Teaching an old dog new tricks? So to speak that is. Hi. My yorkie, Kandy, is 6 years old. She grew up with my children, my husband that works fulltime and myself who works part-time. To this day we cannot get on a consistent schedule for each of us putting her out/feeding, etc. and she has accidents frequently! Schedule now: Out of crate in am to pee in yard In, gets treat We feed her She takes 2 sips of water and has to go out for bowel movement Comes back in to eat Then put her out when she goes to door or she finds us I'm trying: Put her out to pee from crate in am. Bring her in to eat and I set a timer for 10 minutes It goes off, I take away food and put her back out. This seems to be working if I can get the family to abide by it too. But then she still manages to (hold it in) and still has accidents in the house.... Anyones thoughts/suggestions out there? Many thanks. Sue. |

| does she barks when she needs to go? because i have the same problem with my yorkie too, except he's 6 months. Anyways i have him on the schedual with the eating and drinking and yes i do take him out but as soon as i take my eyes off him he goes in the house. My trainer said to only treat him outside and never inside when potty triaing because the dog will think that if he goes inside he'll get a treat vs. going out side. im still working at it with my puppy... so good luck i hope this helps just a little |

| Tethering Hi there, I have a 10 month old yorkie and we are going through our second round of Puppy Kindergarten. We have a wonderful trainer and she suggested tethering Tobi to us if he hasn't pooped outside so that he is always in our line of sight. This way if he goes to make a move to poo, we scoop him up and take him out. We just do our thing and he follows us around. This has worked REALLY well. We bought a tethering leash for $12 and he actually likes it. We don't need it anymore for that, although sometimes we still use for reminding him about other behaviours (like pulling on a walk).
