Have you tried using the Housebreaking Aid spray? I used that with Emilio when I trained him to his potty (a litter pan with only a wee wee pad in it, no litter). The scent is supposed to make them want to go where it is sprayed. It would be worth a shot. You can get it at any pet store, there are several different brands.

Okay, I could cry, I came here to find answers, but it looks like no one has any! My 5 year old will only use one pee pad in the laundry room. She's almost perfect (in my house). Bring her anywhere else, it's open season on throw rugs in other people's houses! WE don't have any throws for obvious reasons.

But the real problem is my 7 month old. I started with 3 pads in other areas of the house and any time I try to get rid of one and narrow it down to the one in the laundry room, she still goes in the area where I took it from. I'm afraid I'll never get rid of all of them, there will be four pads in my house forever. And she goes down the stairs to where she can't go any further because there's a gate, and poops on the bottom stair! And all of this when I'm not looking!

Maybe if I had a big house, but the pads are literally within 15 feet of each other. I am concerned I will have to go to crate training. Tonight, she peed on a blanket that was on the floor, then at the front door on the bare floor. I think she was mad because I wasn't home, my husband was with them. I work at home so I am here so much that I think she got spiteful because I left.

I bet Cesar Milan would laugh at the thought of Pee pads, how unnatural!

I fence Mocha in with her pad, bed, toys on a mat, and water. Pack everything in so there's no space between the things. She has no choice but to pee on her pad only. This works so well, when I take her to walk she WILL NOT pee on the road or anywhere else. Instead, when we come home she runs upstairs, have a wee drink, then pee on her pad like she hasn't peed for a day

Whenever I take her out from her pen/fence, I take her pad too. I put it where she has had accidents before, sort of "covering up" the place. In the end she pees there. I dunno, but it makes sense to me. Aside from that, if she accidents anywhere else, I wipe it with wetties with lemon smell - because I have found she does not like the smell. I dunno bout the odor remover like Nature's Miracle, I have not found it yet in my country, but I figure if she does not like the smell of the spot she will not pee on it. I tend to go with common sense here, and do what seems to work for me and my dogs.

Also, praying to the PUPPY PEE GODS might work

Never give up. I am the most hopeless housebreaker ever lived it seems, but if I can do it, so can you!

A pee pee prayer

I lay the puppy down to sleep,
Please help him w/ his bladder to keep.
I take him out, he won't go wee,
Oh, tell me Lord, is this just me?
We go outside by day and night,
Please help him, Jesus, to get it right.
We do not pee pee on the floor,
We do not pee pee by the door.
I hunger for that pee free day
That would be grand, hip, hip, horay
No yelling, no scolding, or washing the stair
Without surprises who knows where.
It's a good thing, Lord, you made them cute.
Cause pretty soon, he'll need to poop

OMG this is so true and you are so funny.

My two Yorkies who passed years ago were never pee-pad trained (never heard of pee-pads back int he 80s) and when I just got Izz last year the breeder told me she was pee-pad trained and I asked her what that meant..lol I wish she wasn't since she, too, goes on my thow rugs which I have wash all the time. Hahaha..same here it's like she smells clean rug and bam there she goes. I tried putting a pee-pad on top - doesn't work. I also hate to bring her to someone else's home as she will go on their throw rugs as well.

I don't think there is a solution here but to get rid of the throw rugs all together but I have to have them too in my home to keep my feet warm and to protect my hardwood floors.

That is oh so cute.. and oh so true.. love it..I want to join the club..
I am in the same place yet with maravilhosa..and we have been renovating now for two months..so the house is a mess.. so they just figure it is a free for all.. none of them are doing things right..
Hoping when we get done painting and doing new floors they will resettle again..
I had taken in three rescue's that once I trained them . did not go in the house on a matt or anything.. all these I have had since babies.. and they pp on bath matts given the chance.. at the back door.. and with annabella I have a pp pad by the back door.. she poops where ever..and outside.. she is still a tad confused.. but poop I never worry about first.. it is the pp outside I like to worry about first.. the other comes when they are going out on a regualar basis..

I'm currently going through the EXACT SAME THING with my Bella! I know it's not fun at all. We used to have 2 pads for her, one downstairs in her playpen, and one upstairs in our bedroom. Well she has numerous problems upstairs, she'll be doing good, then start peeing anywhere in my room on the side the pad is on, rather theres a pad there or not! A few nights ago we took the pee pad out of our room, and she is only upstairs when we can give her our undivided attention, and when we go to bed we are crating her again. When I wake up the first thing I do is take her out of the crate and bring her downstairs to pee, and whenever she has to pee we take her to the downstairs pad and are pretty much potty training her all over again, but instead of training her to the pads in general we are just training her to that one pad. I don't know if you'd be able to try anything like what I'm doing, but as far as the success goes, since we've been doing this we haven't had any pee accidents on the floor upstairs *in the mornings* (Every morning I would wake up to a new post ).

This is the very reason why I dont want to use pee pads at all anymore, esp for my future babies! It seems like a hard habit to break and they use other things that are simular to the pads such as mats and even clothing on the floor

I am so glad I'm not alone in this either.
I waited until Duke was neutered to put the little runner and area rug down in our new apartment. Soon enough (within 24hrs) I found stained spots on the rugs, I washed them and still find new ones almost everyday. He does very well on the pad, I think he can't tell the difference between his pad and any rugs/towels that are on the floor...

I'll have to keep cleaning them everyday to avoid the odor when I walk in and hopefully I won't have to throw the rugs out because they are beautiful and my apartment needs them.

Best of luck to us all.

I put pee pads on top of the rugs, she rarely misses.

How old is Bella? I heard that puppies go through a few stages of slipping backwards. I am doing similar stuff as you are. I am leading her to the pad of my choice as much as possible and when I see her sniffing to poop, I am taking her to the pad I want her to use. Even though she never poops on the one I want. That's because I kept her in the laundry room a few nights to get her to use the pads. She never wanted to go in there again. Then I got the idea to throw food onto the pad so she would associate it with something positive. When she wasn't scared of the room anymore, I started to encourage her to use the pad. It has worked well, but now I have to get to the next step.

Pepper is 6.5 months old and was doing really well using his pee pads. Hardly any accidents. Then he learned to mark. Now he is marking everything and peeing on whatever. I have started using the belly bands on him. That helps a lot. He always poops on his pee pad, no problem there.
