| Hello there and welcome to YorkieTalk. I'm sure you'll love it here and hopefully learn a lot for your new baby. My very best piece of advice came from a local dog trainer. She told me the minute you bring your new pup home, before bringing it inside...go straight outside, sit him in the grass where you want him to eventually go potty all the time...and wait...yes, it may take a very long time, but eventually it will go potty. Then "throw a party" with praise and/or treats...let it know how happy you are that it went potty outside, then and only then can you bring it inside your home. Do not give your new pup free run of the house, keep it crated when you are not actively playing with or holding it. Be patient and persistent...they are really very smart little dogs and want nothing more then to please you. Good luck, let us know how it goes. But most important enjoy...they grow up so very fast!!!

| It is recommened not to bring home a Yorkie pup until 12 weeks old. this has to do with health issues and allowing the puppy to socialize with it's littermates. I did, however get my Suzi at 9 weeks. She was very scared and shy at first. There is a lot of stress to a little puppy when brought to a new home .It only took until that night though... I gave Suzi time to adjust, and did not puch myself on her. I let her warm up to me and her new environment. Suzi did eat after we all went to bed, and came out of of shell by the next day. I would sit on the floor and she would come up to me. I was careful to move slowly, and pet her gently. I gave her lots of toys, and played with her too. It did not take long for her to be jumping all over me, and playing. Remember that a little puppy does tend to sleep a lot. Just let them sleep. Be sure that the pup is eating and drinking. I used pee pads. It is way too hot to take Suzi outside where I live, and she has not had her shots either .Vets reccomend little puppies stay indoors because they can get sick easily. There are so many ways to train a puppy. I actually did not use a crate, and she is doing well. She is spoiled though, and really the love of my life |
