| How should I potty train my yorkie? I am still in school so I won't be able to take her out every half hour or so. It is summer now so I will have time to train her. I want to crate train but I don't think I would be able to because I wouldn't be able to let her out when I'm back in school. We have a doggy door in our bathroom that leads to outside. Should I just keep her in the bathroom while I am gone? If so, how can I teach her to go through the doggy door to go potty? I also really want to teach her to go potty on command. How would I be able to do that if I'm not there to tell her? Any suggestions about everything? I am really stuck right now. |

| Sorry noone has answered as of yet. Hopefully someone that has been in your similar situation and come along and give you some tips. Do you live alone? Will there not be someone else who could let her out while you're not there? Not sure what the max is that they should be in the crate at a time and not sure if the doggie door would work yet. If she/he is really young, they would need supervision at all times. If you live alone and going to be gone for a long period of time, I would opt for a large space, such as a med/large xpen or kitchen with babygate at the entryway. Place wee wee pads in one corner and her bed, toys & water in another and just try to wee wee pad train her for now. You can train her to also go outside as time allows (providing you have noone else at home to help). Good Luck!

Missing Yoshi Everyday! Donating Member | you can potty train her to go outside...remember when the older they get the longer they will be able to hold it in...that is the purpose of housebreaking...you put them on a schedule... mine is scheduled to go potty first thing in the morning....then after i get off work...and before bed... when i first got them i came home during lunch to let them out since they can't hold it in that long...hehe so with puppies...they would go about every 4 hrs....then as they get older and learn to hold it...they go every 8 hrs or so...being successful in housebreaking is on the owner consistency... dog although can't tell time in numbers but once they get on a routine and the owner keeps up with it...everything is set...hehe..jmo
