| Dog Wont Poop Outside I have a year old teacup yorkie who refuses to go outside. I used to live in a big house and had a room with pads down just for him to go in. I recently moved into an apartment and there is no longer a room for him to go in. I have wee pads down that he is really good about peeing on but will not poop on them, he will go elsewhere in the house. I bring him outside to go to the bathroom often and he will pee but will not poop outside. He will sniff the grass and chew on stuff until I eventually bring him back inside (about 20 minutes later). I know he has to go, because I will catch him squatting in the house and pick him up and bring him outside right away- he still refuses to outside. I do have two roommates who are basically fed up with my dog, and its going to come down to me having to get rid of him, which I cant imagine doing because he is the love of my life!! PLEASE HELP! |

| I do let him walk around... it just seems like the more I let him walk around the more distracted he gets! |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Have you noticed what time he usually goes? All three of mine are very regular on their "poop" schedule. I can pretty much tell you when mine will need to go...just by time alone. I will say...sometimes it takes 10 minutes or so..to find just the right spot.

| oh really? no I havent really noticed because he was free to go whenever he wanted to in his room in the other house! also, while we are doing this, should i be putting him in his crate again while I am at work? the crate was never really that great for him because he went to the bathroom in there and would be covered in his own mess (and yes I even had it restricted so he only had enough room to lay and move minimally) haha sorry for all the questions, I am very frustrated! |

Some tips....all of mine go first thing in the morning. I mean immediately before anything else is done at my house...they have to go out to potty. Understand I still wait probably 10 minutes....my oldest will run out and pee and wants back inside...but I know she needs to do the other. It just hasn't "kicked" in yet. Yours probably will need to go first thing in the morning...my oldest two...poop two/three times a day. Morning... 2ish afternoon and again we get home from work at 5. When he poops outside....praise him to high heaven and give him a treat. I use the phrase go potty with mine. Mine will all pee on the command go potty. I wouldn't leave him unrestricted in the house. Either use his crate...or I use an x pen...it's big enough for a bed, some toys...and a pee pad. My older two were never trained to pads....Reggie is. We are working on going outside all the time with him.

| yeah I always take him out first thing in the morning... I usually let him sleep in bed with me and he will pee on his pad throughout the night, but usually wont poop, so I bring him our right away. I will have to watch him to get his schedule down! thanks so much!! I really appreciate your help! |

I really have to watch Reggie. Honestly while I was impressed he used that pad when I got him...and I know people who swear by them, but honestly I think it teaches them to go in house. I've cleaned up my share of poop...

| ok.. haha I have yet another question (this whole thing is so tricky).... so we were outside for about 15 minutes and he peed but never pooped, but about 5 minutes after we got back in the house, he pooped on his pad. Should I be rewarding him for going on the pad and not on the floor or discouraging it because he went in the house?! |

| Kobe did the same exact thing until he was about 8 mos old. since we lived in an apartment, I had the pads in the laundry room. when he got l little older (7 mos), I decided to start walking him when I got home from work. I would walk for about 30 minutes and he never did anything. I did the same thing for 2 weeks and one day he lifted his leg and peed. OMG I went crazy and praised him and called everyone to let them know that kobe went outside. But he still hadn't pooped. Then about another week went by and he pooped. Then after that, he refused to use pads. Now, we live in a house and he is totally trained and goes outside. Just be persistant and praise and treats.
