| obsessing over chipmunk hole, HELP!!! A couple of weeks ago Ginger and Bernie chased a chipmunk across our yard and watched it dive down one of its many holes. Ha, ha, ha...isn't that cute? Well, since then Ginger has been obsessed with that hole. The minute I open my door she races barking and tearing at the hole and, even worse, attacks anyone who tries to intervene (she doesn't bite, just freaks out). It's not getting better. My solution has been to keep her on a leash in my fenced yard. We tried burying the hole, putting one of dh's smelliest sneakers on the spot, vinegar (I don't know why, guess I thought I could change the smell of it), covering the hole...nothing works. As soon as she's free it's to the hole and being a complete maniacal, well dork. Rewarding her with goodies for ignoring the hole hasn't worked yet either... Help!!!

| LOL, I'd live with the obsession, if she'd just take time out to pee. I feel for you, I believe muskrats and their holes must be a lot bigger than chipmunks.

Therapy Dog Donating Member | Oh Ginger and Bernie Izzy is obsessed just like you. We found out we have a family of chipmunks living under our deck. Izzy knows that they are there and it's been crazy for over a year now. We have to put this wire fence around our deck so she doesn't squeeze under it to get them. The brown wire fence my husband got at Home Depot and then I planted these nice small, miniture grasses around the deck to hide the wire fence. So far..knock on wood that she hasn't started to dig for them. OK fast forward to this year...we also have an opening under our kitchen addition that hangs over the foundation. We never had a problem but this year OMG we saw a skunk go under there. Izzy would bark like crazy during the day at her (she could see under that little opening where she wa sleeping) so we have to fix that issue this weekend with decorative bricking and again planting with taller grasses to hide that. I didn't mind the chipmunks but oh my didn't want Izzy to get sprayed by the skunk. Skunk has not returned!!! It's a never ending situation but hey our Yorkies are terriers and ratters that are trained to hunt out small critters. Oh and we have two families of squirrels living in each neighbor's tree (one Oak and one Buckeye tree). So needless to say Izzy is patrolling our yard 24/7. I'm surprised that our neighbors haven't said anything yet about her constant barking..hahaha!

If nothing else...muskrats are uglier than chipmunks. Just thought of something...maybe try putting moth balls in the hole. Moth balls are supposed to repel deer and such in a garden...maybe it'll repel Ginger. I filled the muskrat hole up with rocks... <----- hubby's expression to that. Muskrats have tunnels and multiple exits....apparently Ramsey doesn't know this...she is only intent on one. Rams is also obsessed with squirrels...she will wait patiently for HOURS...for one squirrel to show up.

| lol, I see that same expression from dh when I do a lot of things. Okay, if I try the mothballs and Ginger does the opposite and decides to eat one (there's no telling with this one)...guess I need to research moth ball toxicity. You may be on to something.
