| I need some suggestions QUICK! I am trying to leash train Callie and it isn't going well. It is clearly time she get restricted to how far she can go now. She ran out into a busy street with my mother the other day. Mom was out there stopping traffic trying to get her. Plus we leave in less than a week for vacation and she's going with us. I need her to be good on a leash so she doesn't get hurt. We'll stop for potty breaks (and I'm scared to death she'll run!) We're staying at my mother-in-law's house and she has a (small) dog but I want her on a leash in case he doesn't like her. She is 10 weekes oldand stubborn as can be. How did you guys train yours?

| Try this First you must get her trained to come when called. With my two males, I hooked a long lead on to my belt loop and kept it on whether I was indoors or out, the pups were attached to the lead. The lead was long enough to allow the dogs to go into other rooms (about 25 feet long) then I would call come here, if they did not, I reeled them in. If they came, they got a treat and praise. Took about a week. They always come when I call now. Also you might try a halti harness, allows more control for the person over the pup. They are difficult to find in extra small and that is what you would need for her. As far as running off, keep a tight hold on that leash, for little ones, they are very strong. Good luck. |

| Forgot something At 10 weeks does she have all of her shots? I would not take a pup around another dog unless she had all of her shots, nor would I take her traveling. They can pick up all kinds of nasty things at rest areas (other dog feces) and around people. JMHO |

| I have a harness on her. She hated it at first, but doesn't seem to mind it so bad now. She just won't move once the leash is attached. Yes, I've had her to the vet she is current on her shots. When I call her she comes...but not always for everyone else.

| I put Sabrina on her leash and kept her on it - even in the house - and she figured out real quick that the leash meant to stay close to Mommy. I also put part gates over the doors so that if someone came - she goes to see who it is - I can grab her while I talk to them - that helped a lot. Now, even when we visit people can't believe how she sits right ON my foot, or in my lap and goes to the door but never through it unless I tell her to. Doesn't mean she doesn't have OTHER problems - HA. They are so precious - and so darn quick!! Hope it helps you.... sabrinasmom |
