| Groomer -vs- Macy Well Macy had a big week so far Monday she went to her first dog obedience class. Boy there were a lot of big puppies there! I was scare at first and almost walked out, then the lady told me not to worry “they had never lost a puppy yet”. We survived the first day….8 more weeks to go! Then yesterday we had our first trip to the groomer and Macy didn’t like it. I want to take her for 30-minute appointments so she can get to know her. I just want her to be the one to do around her eyes and ears I can do the rest. But Macy won’t let her get anywhere near her head without biting and I mean almost vicious. The groomer was very sweet and gentle with her, played with her for 30 minutes, gave her lots of hugs and kisses but it didn’t matter. She isn’t even charging me for these appointments because all she can do is comb her and clip her nails. Any suggestions on getting her to sit for the groomer, or do you think this might just be something that takes time? She is going back this afternoon and again on Friday.... Thanks

| Some dogs are just that way you may have to muzzle her for grooming until she is fully trained. Just a suggestion good luck

| I hate the idea of a muzzle but maybe until she learns to behave with her we might have to try that. She also has a strightjacket looking coat to put on them when they misbehave.....I will keep you up to date.

| Ever stopped to think she my not like the groomer? Tyson was like that the first time i took him to one person then i tried someone else and he was fine with her cutting his nails and cleaning up his face. Dogs do have a sixth sence and even doe she seems to be nice around you there has to be someting about her that Macy picked up on and is not cool with. |

| Im a groomer, some dogs just dont like some people. There are a few dogs that HATE my co-worker but they will let me groom them without any issues. It doesn't matter how noce or how sweet the groomer is. The dog might not like that person plain and simple. I would suggest trying some one else. I would try every last resort though before I use a muzzle. You have no idea of how stressed dogs get using a muzzle. Muzzling her can make her really hate to get groomed period. Its very tramatic for a dog. Another thing to try and this is one of my new found tricks of the trade, I have a pair of thick leather gloves that I use with some of the dogs that i know are just plain crabby. That way I get my stuff done and they can chew on me all they want without biting me and causing damamge. |
