I Love Thor Donating Member | I too would say pennies in a can. This only works if the dogs are in close proximity to you. ie, if they run to the fence far in the backyard and you shake your can of pennies, they will not bat and eyelash! But if you are close, this will shut them up. It scars them. Negative reinforcement. In my experience, pennies in a can doesn't cure the barking, just stops it in the moment. Good Luck! |

| Oh my thank-you all for your responses....but I would never consider a shock collar, never even thought of it...guess I expected you all to read my mind lol...I had been traveling w/my hubby and reading the sky mall catalogue and saw these sound frequency devices and one was on a collar...heres the link http://www.skymall.com/shopping/dept...-_-PetProducts Ihope this will take you to the correct place...The sound frequency devices sound like the same effect as the pennies or coins in a can would do. I was curious about the one that stays in the room while your gone, you turn it on and when they bark, it emits a sound that only they can hear, its a neg. reinforcement training also...I'll let you know if it works. I have to do something and I can't stay up here in the apt. when I have a customer downstairs to put a leash on them and lead them to another room and remove them from the area ect....as the trainer on TV does..lol...I appreciate the feedback!

| I've been using the coins in a can method for quite some time now and it just is not effective with my girls. They aren't startled by it, they totally ignore it. I don't mind barking to a certain extent but these 2 are really bad. They bark when the big dogs are let out the back door, or in. They bark when we are open the interior garage door, which we have to do to put out recycles, garbage, soda cans or let the big dogs in if it is wet out. The door is used many many times a day. They bark when someone comes in the front door, even if it is each time you walk in with a new bag of groceries. They bark when they want your attention, they bark because you didn't give them enough attention. They bark when they hear my voice if they aren't with me at that moment. They bark when they hear me get up out of a chair. They get a ton of time with me and playing and roaming around so it isn't neglect LOL They are contained in an ex pen over night and occasionally during the day for their safety when need be. The barking is insane! Ok, so I really didn't have a point except to say I feel your pain I did order the citronella collars and will see if they work out or not. I did the water bottle for a short time but had to stop because Bella had a splint on for quite some time that couldn't get wet. I don't like using that to much either because the floor gets really slippery when its wet and I don't want anyone getting hurt slipping.

I will let you know how this works..Yours sound like mine.. they would just be fine if you sat with them all day..I am with mine mostly all day and the minute I put shoes on or grab my keys they lose their little minds.....
