| Excessive Barking-Citronella collar I was wondering if anyone had used a Citronella collar to help with their Yorkie's excessive barking? I really don't think Lucy excessively barks, she just barks at night when my mom is at home and her dog Mazie (a 7 yo yorkie) is sitting with her, she barks and then bites at my mom's feet trying to get Mazie to play. I think it's a jealousy issue with the 2 of them for my mom's attention because they don't do it to anyone else and only when my mom is sitting down. Anyway, my sister also has a yorkie and she got him a citrnoella collar that sprays him everytime he barks. Well he's figured out that it only happens when he wears the collar so he won't bark with the collar on but he barks when it's not on. I'm just not sure if it's the right thing to do to correct Lucy's barking at night, because Mazie would still bark at Lucy so I was thinking unless they both had collars it wouldn't help. And the collars are rather expensive so not sure if we really want to invest in 2. So I guess my question is, does anyone have any other suggestions on how to break Lucy of her barking habit? Or if they recommend the collar any techniques on it's uses, etc.

| I've used it for LG and it scared them when it sprays, so of course, they stop barking. I didn't like it because it would leave her smelling like citronella and it was kind of bulky on her (and looked uncomfortable). With that said, we never allowed her to sleep in it...she is bad about barking at night if she hears the big dogs or the wind, etc. We tried the remote trainer...the positive/negative sounds...it was okay, but you had to be pretty near the dog and carry the remote around all the time. LG stills barks, but we have some soda cans w/ marbles or pennies in them that we shake when she barks. We have several around the house...this works because it scares her (sad to say). But again, you have to have it handy and do it right when they bark. There are some training methods out there...I think I have them saved somewhere on the computer...if I find them, I will post links!

| I never saw a citronella collar that I thought was small enough for a yorkie. When Coby was little we started with one of the sonic (high pitched sound) devices. That frightened him way too much. So we switched to the coins in the can. Worked great for a couple of months. Then that stopped working, so I used a squirt water bottle. That worked great until about a month ago and it lost its effectiveness. So now we're back on the sonic device which is working great!! I guess Coby's training is like shampoo - you have to change every once in a while or it loses its effectiveness!

| yeah my sister has a larger yorkie so the citrnoella collar is no larger than an underground fence collar would be, but Lucy is smaller than he is, and honestly it just seems harsh. I know her barking needs to be controlled, but since she does only do so in this one instance, I think I might try the can. I thought about a spray bottle but she's already kind of afraid of water and taking baths so I don't want her to assoicate that with bathing, since we're finally starting to ease her into that.

| I'm trying a squirt bottle of water, and when she barks I squirt her a little.. but now I only have to pick it up and when she sees it, she just stops...
