![]() Milo was pretty well housetrained when we had him. Despite his horrible upbringing prior to us getting him, he did very well in the house. However, when we were gone during the day and sleeping at night, if he had to go badly enough he'd never go on the pad we left out for him and Jackson. We never were able to successfully get him to go on the pad, but he succeeded in actually UN-training Jackson to use the pad! It's horrible. Even though Milo's been gone for quite some time, he still won't go back to using the pad like he used to. We've already had to take away the full kitchen from him because we're sick of having to clean it every day. He's back in his pen now, and still failing to hit it. He even sleeps on the pad now, which is repulsive when he actually manages to pee on it first. If he keeps failing in his pen, then we'll have to go back to his crate, which would be regressing back to when we first got him a year ago! I don't know what to do. It's like we just can't teach him what he already knew! Any ideas?

![]() My little boy at one time was pretty good at going on the pad then its was like he decided my carpet worked just as well. No matter what I did it never helped. We are now back to crate training again. Any ideas on how to get the odor out

![]() I think you sound like you're blaming all of this on the puppy...We paid $500 for an obedience trainer for our outside dogs..the thing he said that stuck with me most is when a dog does something wrong, it's not the dog, it's the owner....! There are more important things than a clean house..I like a clean one too, but you know what, if it doesn't get cleaned, it's not the end of the world..These dogs have such short lives, and you should give them the best life you can, and if you can't do that, then maybe you should find someone that will give him the love he so deserves..this just breaks my heart!!!!

![]() Maybe you could pick up Tamar Gellar's "The Well Loved Dog" - it will teach you HOW a dog's "mind" works - bc I'm thinking it could be a real benefit here. Until you understand how to communicate with this PRECIOUS little fella, he will continue to "fail" until you understand how to develop a language with him.
