I think the biggest problem is how scared this dog seems to be - using the word "repulsive" is sort of revealing. Urine, while perhaps not exactly "appealing", isn't usually "repulsive". It is, after all, sterile - if that helps you re-frame it (sometimes it helps to look at it another way). I'm not saying "hey! let your dog lay in pee!" - but, your dog is freaked out enough to be so confused, that he'll just lay wherever, you know? Part of his "freaked out-ed-ness" comes from him picking up on the energy from you being "repulsed" by him. That will get him nowhere, but regressed - further and further.

Maybe you could pick up Tamar Gellar's "The Well Loved Dog" - it will teach you HOW a dog's "mind" works - bc I'm thinking it could be a real benefit here. Until you understand how to communicate with this PRECIOUS little fella, he will continue to "fail" until you understand how to develop a language with him.
