Where does your yorkie sleep? I was just wondering where your yorkie(s) sleep. Our pug sleeps in bed with us and I'd like our yorkie to do that as well. My husband says otherwise. He's mainly just worried about rolling over onto him. I'm more worried about pottying in bed (since we're still working on potty training). He's good about holding it all night and first thing when we get up I take him to his pee pad and wait till he does both. Anyway, just wanted some opinions! Thanks. :o Treena and Bruno |
Hercules sleeps in his kennel. We're afraid of hurting him as well during the night. And he's also only 4 months, so of course the potty training is an issue as well. Maybe when he's older we'll let him sleep in bed with us. He's also in his kennel during the day when we are at work. He seems to be doing pretty well with the kennel overall. |
How did you get Hercules to tolerate his kennel? Bruno will go into his crate (it's a soft crate) to chew on a toy or if I put him in it to nap but I can't seem to get him comfortable enough to zip it shut. |
Sandy, who is half Yorkie and an older dog who we rescued sleeps in bed with us, under the covers, by my feet. I think it's a security thing with her. Every time she naps or sleeps, she has to have a blanket covering her. We tried the crate with her but she really didn't do well, and since she is 100% potty trained, I don't mind that she doesn't use it. BUT when I get my Yorkie puppy it will be crate trained from day one. All of my other dogs have been and it really makes potty training and many other things easier for the dog and for ME :) |
http://hometown.aol.com/tigga0022/myhomepage/dog.html HERES WHERE MINE SLEEPS lmao^^^^ |
Maddie and Rudy let me sleep in the bed. When it is time to go to sleep they wiil knock me down to get in bed before me lol. I failed on the kennel thing...................Cindy |
toby WAS sleeping in bed with us, he NEVER peed on the bed, he got kicked off because i wanted to associate aour little confinement area with something other that us leaving him alone, so now i put him in there during the night when we are there as well as when we leave..... i was worried about the pee on the bed thing too, (especially since he tended to sleep ACROSS MY NECK..... ) it was a little difficult to breath/swallow so that is another reason he got booted to his area....lol |
Bentley either sleeps in bed with us or in his dog bed on the floor beside the bed, depending on his mood. I've heard that they are not supposed to be allowed on the bed while they are still potty training, but Bentley has never had an accident on the bed and starts walking on me in the middle of the night if he needs to go. We don't move around much when we sleep, so we don't worry about smooshing him. He also sleeps up by our heads (between us) which is very cute as he thinks he is a person and usually has to put his head on a pillow just like us :) |
You must have been reading my mind... I was thinking about posing the same question last night! :p The first night we got him at 7 weeks, I put him in his crate. He whimpered a little and then would go to sleep. I'd wake him up and take him out and put him back in his crate. But after 2 nights, I put him in our bed. He sleeps where ever he wants to... between the pillows, between my DH's feet, next to me or one of the other 2 dogs sleeping under the covers. He's NEVER done in anything in the bed... usually sleeps all night. Occasionally he wakes up to go out, but will walk over to me and stand on my face LOL He loves his crate, which we keep in our bedroom, and will happily go get in if he's tired and wants a nap. We also have a sherpa-type bed in the living room where he hoards all his toys and plays and naps there if we're in the living room watching tv. During the day, while we work, he stays in the large guest bathroom, with a gate up. I put his little bed in there, toys, food/water and a pee pad. He does very well, and only wets on the pee pad. But he can't wait until I get home so he can go out to poop. He'll be 11 weeks Friday and I am amazed at how well he is doing in the housetraining arena. I have to confess, he does like to get treats when the "goes", and tried the fake-peeing with me, but I caught on to that pretty quickly, especially when he'd come in and make a little puddle on the floor about 2 minutes after I'd taken him out. But I love my little fur-babies to sleep with me. We cuddle and play right before the lights go out... what a special time!! Cyndie and Trevor |

Definately in the kennel....... Both my yorkies sleep together in the same kennel. I think that's why we have our littlest one so used to it. I started kenneling them right when we got them. It's their security. I also have a fav stuffed animal and a blankie in there too, along with a soft fleece bottom. The only time they go in there now though is for bedtime and when we're gone. Our oldest yorkie could stay out, because she doesn't have accidents anymore, but I would feel aweful kenneling Mia if I didn't kennel Muffy. Anyways, that's what we do. |
Most Yorkies sleep where elephants sit!! Anywhere they want to!!! I think that once everyone adjusts to each other that most of our babies sleep wherever works out best! For Toto that's 1/2 of our king sized bed .... which leaves 1/4 each for Patrick and me! We have her little "up & down" stair next to the bed and she gets herself to her wee wee pad during the night without waking us!! Life is good! ;) |
We sleep on twin beds in our little Casita and Higgins bounces back and forth between our beds during the night. He walks across the table between the beds. And he gets up and down during the night to pee on his pad (always) and poop in the aisle (always, so we grab a flashlight and check before putting a foot down). Pogo always sleeps at my feet. If it's cold, he's under the covers. Pogo has always been my personal heater. It sure gets a little crowded when both of them are in bed with me! I weigh 240 and the bed is only 30" wide........... |
Dean slept in his impromptu kennel the first two nights. Kinda have to do it this way b/c he is not fully housetrained. Now, the others sleep wherever they want, sometimes under the covers depending on how cold it is. I put a quilt over three sides of Dean's kennel and when he whined I tapped on it with the first thing I could find -- an old green glass coke bottle I have as a knick knack on my bedsie table. It worked wonderfully. (Thanks whoever suggested the tapping to make them stop whining!) Dean is 3 1/2 lbs -- I'm afraid I'd roll over on him! |
every time toby cried i just took kis kennel and threw i out the window bungi style......lol......jk, i did the tapping thing and said NO ......he hates that word :p |
We once let Yoda sleep on our bed, and ever since... well, you can guess where he sleeps, eh? :) |
Ranger sleeps with us in bed since the crate training didn't go over so well. I was hard core about him staying in a crate, but FH couldn't sleep with him crying and barking the whole night. The whining and such ceased when we let him sleep with us, and he still hasn't had any accidents in the bed. Plus I love the fact that he's big enough to jump up and down on his own without waking us. |
LMAO browniesmom622 that was to cute Sebastain and Jasmine sleep in my bed along with my 4 cats and sometimes my son guess i'm lucky i'm single lol. During the day sebastain sleeps on my dinning room table looking out the window till I come home little brat lol |
Our Gucci sleeps by the side of our bed in her puppy bed. We have a wee wee pad by the door of our bedroom and one in the bathroom. The first 2 nites when she came home she slept in our bed. Then my husband close the hallway that leads to the bathroom with a baby gate to keep her in that area. Needless is to say that my hubby and kids kept leaving the gate open so she has accidents once in a awhile. When she is loose on the leaving room she is lazy and goes there. She is being on treatmeant for ringworm since we got her, so our intetion was to keep her confined to the hallway but of course we couldnt do that to her so now she runs loose when we are home, but when we go out for a little bit we keep her in the hallway with the gate close. She doesnt cry at all, but she does barks everytime she senses something. Gucci will be 6 months Jan 10. Marie |
Our two allow us to sleep in their queen size bed. we get only a portion of it. Buckeye under the sheets and Ahia stretching out. Our bed has gone to the dogs! |

They sleep right with us! We have a queen sized bed, and one of our cats sleep there, along with our two yorkies! They snuggle with us, keeping us very warm. I have done that since I first got them, and they never had an accident on the bed. They always hold it all nite, always have, since tiny 8 wks old! If it's cold in the house, they go under the covers. We have never slept on them or hurt them. You know where they are and they know where you are. I get up a couple of times during the nite, too, and it always works out fine! |
lol just a thought.. everyone talking about their pets curled up with them in bed keeping them warm makes me think about the hot flashes and 2 yorkies and a husband curled up with me. Those of you who have ever experienced those dreadful power surges know that is almost impossible to tolerate more heat curled around you. LOL |
Hot flashes & all Mia sleeps w/ me. Have you tried Revival Soy? It has all but eliminated mine. Just drink 1 shake around noon or eat a rice krispie like bar. I was totally amazed. I can actually sleep now. |
Archie moves around. He sleeps in his little doggy bed in the foyer area, sometimes on the couch, whereever he wants for naps. But at night, he will come in and sleep on the bed with me around 12 or 1 and wakes up when my boyfriend gets home at 4:30. Until he comes home, Archie sleeps near his pillow but as soon as he comes home, Archie moves to the foot of the bed on my side. But when we have guests, he likes to sleep with them in the spare room. I think I might have squished him once but he barked. Maybe if you try allowing your yorkie to sleep next to you, he'll figure out the best spots where he's least likely to be hurt. Dogs have a natural instinct to protect, so they like to be near you and they're very sensitive to slight movements, etc. Atleast Archie is. |
hi all im thinking of buying my pup a doggie bed.. but will she sleep in it or should I wait till she's bigger? Im afraid she'll rip things apart :( coz thats what she does to her blanket. And anyone put a sweater/shirt on their yorkies to keep them warm at night? will they go crazy if you try to dress 'em? |

Here's where Otis sleeps. Of course, take note that he's SMACK in the center of the bed, which leaves me hanging off the sides!! |
I don't think Otis is comfy enough in the middle of that bed, Junebug! :) I guess we're sorta lucky that Yoda sleeps at the bottom of the bed (with our feet)? Though he does come up for some Mommy warmth in the middle of the night, but his heating pad is on all night for him as well. |
Obie (3/4 Yorkie and 1/4 poodle, 5 pounds) sleeps in bed with me. As a puppy, he slept in a pen next to my bed, and I would take him up into my bed for a cuddle in the morning, after he had used his pad and I knew it was safe. This gradually morphed into just spending the night with me, as he got more completely pad-trained and the winter got colder. People talk about the danger of them getting squashed, but Obie seems to be on top of the situation and move out of the way when I move. A friend of mine whose chihuahua sleeps with her says the same thing. He likes to nestle in behind my knees, or further down, by my feet. |
my little beaker boy sleeps in bed with us everynight, he is either laying across on my neck, snug between my chin and top of chest, or at the top of my head or when i lay on my side curled up right next to me. |
