Help with Potty Training Hi there, my little Schmoo is 5 months old now. It is too cold for us to do the outside thing with her, so we opted to do the pee pads...which for the most part has been successful. We have been dealing with an extremely shy little girl, so accidents will happen if you are near her papers...as she won't come to use them. She has gotten better, and was using her papers for the last month 100% of the time, and then...she has decided that she won't poop on them, anywhere is better than her papers, and I mean anywhere. We chose not to crate her as with her shyness it wasn't helping and she screamed and became more shy when you took her out of her crate. We live in a condo, so taking her outside when it gets warmer every 20 minutes won't be an option, we don't want her to be pee pad trained or litter trained forever. Any suggestions? Any thoughts on why the papers are being ignored for poops now? She was so successful so quickly and seems to be regressing as she gains her confidence and loses her shyness? Can't seem to catch a break here. Thanks for the help Nadine

My little on is so picky... He will not pee on a used potty pad. I have to change them after every use. He also has to have a seperate potty pad for pooping. I keep 2 potty pads out, side by side. This way he can poop on one and pee on another. Where does she go poop now? If she has a place were she is pooping. I would place a potty pad there. Then you can move it a inch a day until you have it where you want it to be.

I think you are doing well...my 7 month old Yorkie named Bella had a hard time potty training as well. Patience and consistency are key factors. For example, Bella used the pads in the beginning and then she just stopped going potty on them. So we tried going outside and it honestly has taken 2 months or so but she is going potty outside on a pretty regular basis. I give her a cookie every time she goes but when we first tried going outside it took a long time for her to go. You have to get her on a pee/poo schedule and take her out or put her on the pad constantly. I used to have to take Bella out every hour or so. But now she knows what "outside" means and she will bark at the door if she needs to go. But she still has accidents..I think with lots of patience, consistancy and time your dog will be doing great also---I live in an apartment and I let Bella go on the balcony with my supervision..that way I don't always have to go down 16 flights of stairs Last edited by jennifer1234; 01-13-2008 at 03:59 PM.

Patience is necessary, but I don't have 2 hours to walk her outside when she won't go...lol., I ring the bells when we go outside and it scares her lol., she even pooped on the bed the other day, she started on her papers and finished on the bed. I am not a huge fan of crate training, never have been, but am seriously considering it. Nadine
