| Licking I know this is a minor thing, but wanted to ask it anyway. I have a 14 month old yorkie that I adopted about 2 months ago. The question is, is there anyway to train him not to lick, or want to lick your hand when you go to pat him? Maybe this is just a natural trait, but when anyone leans down to pat him he keeps turning his head so he can lick their hands, this behavior seems to bother some people. Any help, or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everybody |

| licking It sounds like he is anxious..and has developed this habit to compensate. I think he needs time to adjust to the new life he has...and you need to help him break an instilled habit. Spray your hands with Bitter Apple and then pet him...I would be leery of saying, NO, too much right now...I would try to distract him as much as possible..BUT I am not a professional trainer... |

| Loki also has this lovely nervous habit. I find that he does it less when he has something better to chew on, like a bully stick. I try to interrupt him/distract him when he does it and I give him a reward when he stops. Sometimes I give him a time out or at least ask him to get off the couch and move to the dog bed if he's going to do it. I also have found that wearing him out helps, since he sleeps rather than getting bored and licking. Sammy also does the licking your hand/nose/etc. thing. She even goes around and licks floors and things. I haven't figured out how to stop that habit yet. It's gross.

| Lily would lick my face all day if I let her. It was cute at first but now it's a little much. A friend told me that you can get some kind of rash, like if the dog is licking itself first. I never believed her but I swear after giving in and letting Lily lick my face, that particular side of my face broke out. Could be a coincidence but who knows? I know, sounds kinda gross.

| Trixie licks us ALL of the time! I really think it's her way of playing with us...I think it's funny but my husband gets annoyed because she does it to guests! haha! She is three and still has not stopped so I don't think I will be able to stop her!

| My shih poo always wants to lick my neck and the bends of my arms. I'm just now trying to break him of it. He usually tries to do it when we first get in bed. He is a nervous boy and it does seem to relax him, but I have to get him to stop. He's doing pretty well. I just put my hand up in front of wherever he's trying to lick. Also, my yorkie licks my pantlegs, his front legs and the bed sheets and comforter. I wish someone would tell me what it means. Is it a nutritional deficiency, or just a weird behavior.

| Sebastian wakes me up with kisses every morning, and I just love it. My hubby on the other hand hates it, and will pull away from him. He just seems to have learned who the lickable one is.
