| ![]() Anyone have any words of wisdom or advise on using an indoor litter type potty for their dog? I see on ebay you can buy the type that you put newspaper in....... I am wondering what kind of success you all have had with them if you have tried them or use them. I am discovering that I am starting this training at the worst time of year for where I live (Maine). The weather is turning cold, rainy, snow soon, and none of us are having much fun standing outside in the rain and cold waiting for Lilly to go potty. And she stands there like she is freezing, doing nothing to hurry things along. I am wondering if I could do a combination type training........she would go outside if I took her there, or just use the potty tray if I don't. I am not sure how to make her understand that she needs to go on the tray thing......but figure there must be a way to do that. Any thoughts? Thanks! Lori |

| ![]() If you decide to use a litter box, I would recommend you use potty pads in them rather than newspaper. Here is how I trained Sugar to use the litter box. I started by using an ex-pen. I put the litter box in it and covered most of the ground around it with potty pads. About once a week I would put one less pad down until all that was left was the litter box. This worked for us. I'm sure you'll get lots of advise on this. ![]()

| ![]() I am bumping this up because I would like to know more about how to get them to use the potty pads too. I was trying to train Toby to go outside but we are running into the same problem where its now getting a lot colder and he's not a big fan of freezing his tiny tush off. Also does anyone else have the problem with boys that when they dress them to go outside when its cold....they come back soaked bc they pee on their clothes? Or does that only happen to us? Also its not bc the clothes are too big...I just think he's a careless aimer. Hope that isn't too graphic...sorry if it is.

| ![]() Well, I think I am going to continue the outside pottying for now.......hoping she will go to the bathroom quickly if she is freezing. She is not having many accidents inside right now because I absolutely don't give her an opportunity to. She is being monitored by me or someone else, or if she has just gone outside I give her a bit more freedom to wander. I think in extreme weather I want her to go on potty pads in the garage, but just don't know how to communicate to her that she can. Wow..........who knew this could be so all consuming! Lori |

| ![]() I am attempting to do the "combo" training right now also. The mornings are really chilly now and Niko doesn't want to go. Not to mention that he's afraid of the dark it seems. During the day it isn't a problem but once it starts getting dark...forget it. I purchased him at 12 wks and he's been like this from day 1. Anyhow..I digress...I leave the puppy pad down by the door I take him out to do his business. Up until yesterday..he refused to go on the pads. All the sudden out of the bule he walked over to it..sniffed around and went..LOL I lavished him with praise and a treat! Hopefully soon he will know that it's ok to go on the pads and outside. |
