| Wanted!!! Tuba Anyone own a Tuba??? I want to buy one for my daughter, I'm not loaded and she needs one for school. She's been playing a while now and is quite good! Its her passion, she marches with a tuba from the school too! But needs one at home for pratice. I'm hoping to find a fixer upper or someone who has one in their attic or something... It can be a day older than dirt, its ok... We can fix it and make it workable... We just can't afford to buy one through a store. Let me know if you can help us out!

| I saw that one on Ebay amd I was bummed that is didn't have a brand... And after reading their feedback, I decided that it was best NOT to use that seller. You know how it goes with Insturments... I would have hated to spend 400 on a tuba and find its so thin it has no sound quality, and thats what I was warnned about from her teacher. She said to becarefull about buying off and no nammed brands, especially over seas... she my best bet was an OLD tuba, they are built best and can be repaired with a little, or in some cases, alot of work, lol I know we'll find the perfect one! Thanks for lookin out!

| Hey Kathryn will the school not provide? I know some schools "rent" them out/loan them or some instrument stores have a rent to own type program. I dont know anyone that has a tuba. My nieces friend played a tuba but it was a loaner from the school. Good luck on finding one! And maybe some ear plugs while she is learning Learning band instruments can be an interesting "hearing" experience.

| I did the rent to own on a clarinet one year!! then the brat decided to not play again. If your daughter wants to switch instruments, let me know.

| The school does provide hers now. I'm a booster parent, and we have an amazing program at her middle school! We currently own 9 Tubas! Its unheard of in a middle school and most highschools don't even own half that many! The boosters raise upwards in the area of 80,000 a year for the band program each year and we have a very well funded program! No child has ever been turned away due to them not being able to provide their own instrument. We have always provided loaners to them all... we own tons of every kind! The challange this year is having 6 tuba players! We are BLESSED with so many! As tuba players are hard to come by! We have two in begining band and its super important that we take good care of them and groom them well this year so they are ready for Marching band next year as we are losing two of the 8th graders. The big challenge is that all of these kids will need a tuba to play in school. Thats 4 at school. And they also need one at home for pratice. So thats one at home! That adds up to 12 tubas! We are short one... And at 6grand a pop! We are not running out and buying one right befor parade season, we start the year a bit short on funds. lol And come highschool, Their program is bare bones! They do not have a good booster program and it is under funded, lots of kids find themselves without instruments... and the tubas, who are still lucky enough to get loaners, do not have the luxury of having a Tuba at home and at school. I would like to solve that one by finding her one now and killing two birds with one stone. For now, she can stay after school and pratice and not keep one at home, and that way one of the new begining band students can take one home... its more important to get them going. Kate is already married to the Tuba, lol. So.... No switching instruments for her! But I will say... It would be much easier if she played a clairinet! I played it in middel school! lol And my mom didn't need an SUV to get it to concerts!

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | Just a suggestion.....but you might want to contact some of the other school districts/high schools/middle schools around you area and see if they have any older tubas they are wanting to sell. When my brother played tuba....the tubas got passed down from high school to middle school and then eventually "retired".....so the ones the eventually sold were very old and needed work....but they were good brands and music shops can handle the repair work. My brother's school district had the money to purchase new instruments yearly....so you might see if you can find a band program that is very well funded in another local district. Good luck!! I can tell you that my brother had to take home his school tuba in grades 6 & 7 in order to practice at home (and it was required that it go home nightly)......is that an option for your daughter??

| I wish!!! Our middle school was loaning tubas to other highschools last year! lol The district Kates in is the most well to do in the area, so that is a great thought, but if any school would be passing them on it would be ours... And tubas are really not an instrument you pass on... if a school is kucky enough to get one, they keep it! one of ours is 30 years old! And a real beauty! Covered in dents and sounds amazing! We've serviced it more times than you could believe, we keep books on all of the instruments. Our booster org is non profit so our tax time is FUN! But the repair bills add up and we can account for every penny! It goes fast! Its not cheap to run a good program. And we donate alot to the other schools and other programs. If we found a good deal on a Tuba locally, Her teacher would snap it up! She always does! We just bought 23 instruments at the local Pawn shop! They were having a 50% off sale! We ended up buying a French Horn for $800.00 that was stolen from another school district and we are returning it to them. But we really scored at that place!!! 23 instruments for $6,000.00!!!!! A total steal! I went and bought a trombone, a $2000.00 trombone for Kate and only paid 300 for it! It was BRAND NEW! And a seriously amazing brand! I NEVER could have bought her a brand new Trombone! It was an amazing find! We bought a few flutes for $50! We were like kids in a candy store!!!
