Hey Kathryn will the school not provide? I know some schools "rent" them out/loan them or some instrument stores have a rent to own type program.
I dont know anyone that has a tuba. My nieces friend played a tuba but it was a loaner from the school.

Learning band instruments can be an interesting "hearing" experience.
