| Hello from Scotland I've just joined this huge forum so thought I would introduce myself. I live just north of Aberdeen in NE Scotland with Fargo - my 15 month cocker spaniel and 3 cats (Indy the Siamese, Betsy the Bengal x Burmese, and Baghee - a huge big black moggie) and not forgetting my partner! I am going to look at some Yorkshire terrier pups on sunday !! They are from a kc registered breeder who shows as well. I have to be careful where I live as I understand there are a lot of 'puppy farms' in this area, but this sounds like a genuine breeder and was recommended by the scottish club. I'm very excited but would like to know if there are any particular things to look for in a yorkie pup? It will be for a pet only and will be neutered when old enough. There are just boys left from the litter, and I’m keen on a getting the larger one that is left, as it will have a boisterous spaniel to play with and lots of beach walks when old enough (currently 11wks old) Should I be concerned about the size difference between the puppy and my spaniel (6kg). I would plan to crate the puppy initially so he is not loose with fargo overnight. I would obviously carefully supervise play time but would they be safe to play together from the start? Fargo is neutered and very easy going, and has shown no signs of toy/food possession at all. At what age would a yorkie cope with 1 hour long beach walks – I would gradually build up the excersise as it gets older but from what age are they able to cope with ‘proper walks’. I’m sure I will have lots more questions, but also hope to learn a lot about this breed from this forum. Tanya |

| Hi Tanya And welcome to the forum I wouldn't worry about your Yorkie puppie playing with your Spaniel. We got our Yorkie Zena when she was 8 months old and she was playing with the neighbours collies' straight away and an 1 hour long walks were no problem at that time. If you get a young puppy, just keep an eye on them while they're playing But hopefully someone else has more advice about the very young ones Anyway, I hope you enjoy the forum! Take care, Karin |

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk! We're always happy to see new members! You will know how long you can walk your baby, because she will just stop in her tracks and lay down when she's had enough. You'll then have to pick her up and carry her the rest of the way. I'd take her on a few shorter walks and see how she does. Of course, as you already know, her stamina will increase with time. What a lucky baby to have someone who likes to walk!

| I have an 11 lb Poodle (10 yrs old) and Kiwi (Yorkie) is just over one year old. They are both spayed. They get along fine playing. Sometimes Kiwi gets a little territorial about where Pebbles can sleep on the bed But other than that they are great together. Good Luck in your search! PS My dad is from Glasgow-I have never been but hear your country is so beautiful.

| Hi and welcome to YT. Good luck with your new son. Someone else said it but I agree you will know when they are tired of walking. Murfee either just lays down and won't budge or plants all fours and won't move My friend, Debra aka Highland Yorkies, lives in Highlands, Scotland. Patty and Murfee |

| Well.......... of course we're getting one - how could we not after seeing them we've gone for the larger boy and will collect him in about 11 days time - so plenty of time to think of a name. They were a lovely bunch of dogs, mum was very friendly and the pups were outgoing, playfull and healthy. The next 11 days are going to go soooo sloooowly !! Diane - I don't think you need to be worried about the Eagles, you will be very privileged if you see them - I saw an Osprey not long after moving up here and it was very cool ! the wildlife is great up here, you are almost guarenteed to see dolphins in aberdeen harbour, apart from when you have visitors staying that you want to show the dolphins to !! | It looks like we won’t be members of the yorkie owners club after all – in a strange twist of events we have had to say no to the puppy. We had been on a waiting list for a rescue greyhound, but as we have cats it had to be a cat-safe one. After 6 months of waiting we went for our second choice which was a yorkie and thought that if a cat safe greyhound was ever found we would see how settled the yorkie was and assess the situation. But when I got home last night I had a phone call from the greyhound rescue to say they had found us what appears to be an ideal match. Unfortunately we can’t take on both at the same time and the rescue dog has to take priority. I’m sad at losing the puppy but happy about being able to give a rescue dog a home. It was a hard decision, but maybe after we’ve had the greyhound for a year or so and see how she is with small dogs we may be able to think about a yorkie again………… Tanya. |
