| ![]() Its sad but the people buying from her have not did their research and know what show quality is they are paying that price because show quality sounds more prestigious so I dont really feel sorry for them

| ![]() I'm not a breeder or shower, but I was curious about that as well so I asked my breeder. She told me that you can usually tell by 6 months. I'm sure it's not the same for every breeder...each will have their own opinion, and I'm sure it depends on the individual dog. But yes, if the pup doesn't develop for the ring, they are offered for sale. I would think that that kind of dog would make a terrific pet. They'd already be trained & you wouldn't have to worry about getting them used to grooming. Plus, they'd still be a puppy, but over the really difficult puppy stage.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | ![]() what I would do is post pictures in my grooming salon of actual Show Yorkies and maybe other breeds I groom a lot of. This is just another "scam" artist using what ever marketing terms that they feel will help to sell the pups. But as chachi said - don't feel too sorry for the folks who don't do their research.

| ![]() for some of us that know the basic yorkie standards it's hard to tell on good dogs show quality from non show quality, but LOL most should know at least that the ears should be up and the coat a bit darker. When I bought all my purebreds that did come from show breeders they were four months old, but with these dogs they could tell there was something that would not make them right for the ring, they even had some puppies that they were holding on to just a little longer because they were still not sure. That is why I am always suspicious of breeders that claim they show or have show quality dogs that sell them and take deposits when the dogs are just born. This probably sounds awful but I don't feel sorry for these people that come on here after they buy a puppy and wonder if it is purebred or even up to standards. How hard is it to spend some time looking at photos on line of standard yorkies. 30 years ago when I bought my first yorkie I was in my late 20's but I had enough sense to get my butt to the library and look up information, now all you have to is goggle yorkie images yet some people don't seem to bother. I am buying some new frying pans and LOL I bet I will spend more time researching that then some people do buying a purebred dog.

| ![]() speaking of age on when a breeder would know if a dog is ring ready, what is the longest you think it would take for ears to come up, every dog I bought was at least 3 months of age and the ears were up by then.

It is easy to look at the pup in the original post and tell that it isn't show quality. When this same pup was 12 weeks old, what would've been the tell-tale signs for the purchaser to have been able to pick up on? Just wondering if it's hard for a breeder to know if a dog will be show quality before age 6 months or so - how would a buyer be able to tell at 3 months? Any tips?

You're looking for a good bite, level topline, good tail set, attitude, angulation, movement, etc. some things like topline can go off a bit and level back out as the grow, but if you're seeing something you really don't like or multiple faults early on, then you can bet the puppy won't be show quality. If all is looking good, you watch and see if they hold together as they age.

| ![]() Thank you for that. I really would never shop for a show dog - just a pet, but it had me curious. I appreciate your explanation ![]()

| ![]() I wasn't really feeling sorry for those that had already purchased. I was hoping to help future owners by letting them know this was happening and to do your homework. |
