I'm not a breeder or shower, but I was curious about that as well so I asked my breeder. She told me that you can usually tell by 6 months. I'm sure it's not the same for every breeder...each will have their own opinion, and I'm sure it depends on the individual dog. But yes, if the pup doesn't develop for the ring, they are offered for sale. I would think that that kind of dog would make a terrific pet. They'd already be trained & you wouldn't have to worry about getting them used to grooming. Plus, they'd still be a puppy, but over the really difficult puppy stage.
