The only vaccination required by law....is rabies.

To be honest even if Mia were well when sold...her "breeders" are the epitome of where NOT to purchase a puppy.

But YOU also knew she was ill when you bought her. She told you she had been to the Vet and was recovering from a cough. Am I right that she sent you home with medication for it?

She was told that Mia was recovering from a cold. She was led to believe that the cold was not a big deal, and the vet did not make a big deal about the cold either, how is she supposed to magically think differently?

Bottom line: should a pup who is sick get vaccines? Nope, it can overwhelm an already fragile immune system making it more difficult to get well. BUT, why would ANY breeder send a pup to a new home knowing it was ill and needing medication? And why would a vet sign off a health certificate knowing that a pup needed medication? Would a few more days staying at home with the breeder and going back for a recheck before the health certificate was signed really been such a big deal?

I am just trying to say I think both parties are responsible here. All we are hearing is about how she is such a bad breeder. I don't know either just what I am reading. I think also the vet that gave all the vaccines has a big role in this also.

I really hope Mia is on the road to recovery.

I couldn't agree more. All of this could have been avoided if Susan was in fact a credible/reputable breeder. Everything that occurred afterwards was as a direct result of her breeding practices, and she is the one to blame.

As many years as you have been on YT , the wealth of knowledge on here and from your previous purchases from them that you, of all people would not have purchased from them and then come on here blame them like it you have no fault in it. Both parties are at fault.

I do not know these breeders, she contacted me last night after reading Yorkietalk and informed me about all the shots that were given to Mia, I couldn't believe it, so she sent me the vet statements.

I care about yorkies very deeply and it really bothered me that a long time member, advocate for rescue and advisor on here would seek a yorkie in the manner in which you did and ignore all the warning signs. Then within an hour had all these shots given to Mia knowing it was against your better judgement.
Mia is the one who has suffered because of this.
What I want to come out is that the buyer has to research, check references and be responsible for what you are about to commit to.You are buying what is to become a part of your family.
When a person purchases a yorkie, it not like buying a pair of shoes. It is a lifetime commitment and should be taken very very seriously.

I agree I was at just as much fault. My fault was doing what I tell others not to do. I did buy Brooklyn from them and I explained this all on here. I have not always defended Susan as you stated. As a matter of fact I said previously I would not reccomend her because you do not know where your pups come from.

Last year I did start to defend her, and I did buy Brooklyn from her because she supposedly started her own breeding program. She sent me info to read about it and I thought it was a good program. For three years I advocated NOT buying from her and she was aware of this. It took three years for her to earn my trust and it was ONLY AFTER she said she had her own breeding program.

As far as Brooklyn is concerned. I had an issue with her coughing like Mia when we got her, HOWEVER she told me upfront about it and she said it was from the kennel cough vaccine. We had no health issues since. And, this is why we went back.

I did research other breeders. I've learned a lot here on YT and did buy with my heart however it's not only the byb that are selling tinies for profit. I contacted several breeders from YTCA and only two of them said they would not sell a tiny to anyone, that they rehome them or keep them. One was willing to sell her tiny for $3,000 with an open font and the other was willing to sell their tiny for $3,500 and NEITHER asked about any experience I had. There are good and bad in all and the best lesson learned is to investigate EVERYONE including your best breeders before buying. Through this I have found when money is involved that it's very hard to find anyone reputable. I know that will cause a stir but it is how I feel.

I have no idea why this breeder would contact you not knowing you, why you and not someone else, but whatever. Really makes no sense unless you know and are friendly with them.

You keep saying I should tell the whole story, but I have emails. Did she supply you with info. other then my vet bills and her say so on what has happened? I don't think so or you would not have come on here so staunchly defending her/them. defending her.

I do not negate I was wrong in buying from them. I said that right along and I knew I'd take heat for it, but let's not take away from the fact they are bad breeders and I hope this is a lesson about buying with your heart and that even someone educated when they have that want will sometimes over look warning signs. I did not have to post this thread. I knew I'd take heat for buying and knowing better, but I did it so that it may be a lesson for someoen else.

The OP has already explained that she wishes that she had not vaccinated a sick dog. I just feel that some of us (and speaking from personal experience) will defer to whatever a Vet says when they do not know what to do. In a perfect world, I would think that deferring to a Vet is a good thing, however in this case it was not and the OP realizes that the vaccines probably exacerbated the already sick dog, but it does not take away from the fact that the dog was already sick. She should have not been sold the way she was. I understand that the OP took her home sick, but this is not her first pup from the breeder, so as she has mentioned previously she basically blindly accepted everything Susan told her.

First note I received about Mia or Joy as she was called. This was dated 12/21 (although on 12/20) she had already been to the vet for it (If found that out AFTER Mia was home)

"she was hit with it today. I knew she would. She got sick quickly but is all ready on the upswing. I will set my alarm every two hours to make sure she keeps her sugar up and she will sleep on my chest. That zithro is like a miracle. I actually treated her with the others and I am glad cause she is so tiny. she is just congested at this point but not too badly. did not want to eat though so am syringe feeding her. She is not vomiting so she is keeping the food down and poops are good. She will be fine. No fever. will keep you posted."

So I did wait and did not go until the 28th to see/pick up Joy/Mia. Susan also told me that Mia was seen again and that she had a health certificate issued saying she was fine. She never gave it to me, I never checked for it, but I trusted her and would not have probably asked for it anyway, but it was told to me so I did believe Mia was fine when I took her. The Unlabeled medicine which was Clavamox was given to me as a precaution. It was not even from the vet. It was dispensed and bought by her and my vet even makes reference to that in his unfit for sale letter.
