| Is "vet checked" a term of art in puppy breeding? It sounds like a representation that the puppy will be healthy when it leaves the breeder's control--not with flea dermatitis, a skin infection, and parasites. Or, does it mean something more limited in the dog breeding business? |

| Please understand that I am replying to everything to continue to justify why I posted this warning. I did so after being adviced to form this thread by YT management. I really really do not want to keep replying. I am not trying to be rude, please do not think I am. I am just spent and tired of talking about it. My focus at this point is healing my baby. I have spoken nothing but the truth and have no reason to do otherwise. I have stated once and I will one last time, I forgive you Betty and I am moving on. If you finds it in your heart to give me some form of refund VIA my paypal accout I furnished you great and if not that is fine too. I did not create this thread to cause people to dis-like her for all I know she just didn't know any better. I merely posted it for the other YT people going there to pick up their puppy. Just to inform them to look them over for scabs etc. I will say the test for Parvo come back negative so there is no need for anyone else to pay for the test on any puppies they pick up from her. God bless all of us and our furbabies that are like our own children. Thank all of you for your kind words.

same as any other exam, ears, nose, mouth, teeth, stomach, fur, feet, joints and some do a fecal and some get the first shots with the vet as well..a good vet check means the puppy healthy was free of any obvious signs of disease...some people go above and get blood testing and so forth as well . | |

| I was reading through this thread and I felt I had to post something. I am one of the YT members that purchased a puppy from Betty (tortoisekeeper). I got puppy #3 (now Sophie Belle) and was the first person to pick up one of the puppies. Sophie did get a little car sick but that didn't worry me as I did my research about car sickness. We took her to the vet for a check up within a few days after getting her and our vet said she is a perfectly healthy puppy. She doesn't have worms, didn't and doesn't have fleas, and she is one of the most playful puppies I have seen. We've not had any problems with Sophie or with her "grandmommy", Betty. She does itch sometimes (mostly when it's getting closer to "bath day" and when she has her harness on) and the vet said that can be normal and he didn't see any fleas, flea dirt, or insect bites on her and told me not to worry about it too much unless I began to think it was excessive. He also mentioned that itching can be caused by anything that is on the floor--cleaning products, cat hair (which we have since we have 3 cats), etc. We try to keep our floor as clean as possible since the cats shed a lot, but of course, we can't get it all up all the time, so I'm sure that if she gets a couple of stray cat hairs on her she itches, just as I do if I get them on me. As far as the price, the price we purchased Sophie for is pretty close to what anyone around here would pay. I know that prices for yorkies are different in every region, and in many places in TN, they are much lower. Our vet is also cheaper than others, too. Her check up only cost me about $50 (with puppy kit) if I'm remembering correctly. He has toy dogs himself and his practices deals with lots of small dogs and cats. He is an excellent vet, but he can be cheaper since he makes most of his money working with livestock (we live in a big farming area). He also said it was fine that she was vaccinated by the owner, too. I just felt I had to say something as one of the other members who has one of Betty's puppies. Our Sophie is doing great (we've had her since 7/25) and Betty and I have corresponded several times including talking about vet visits, vaccinations, etc. and she has been very nice and cordial. I am sorry that the OP has had problems with her puppy, but this could have happened with a puppy that you paid $1000 for and got from a professional breeder, too. I saw Betty's 3 adult yorkies and they were healthy happy dogs, too. IMHO, she takes care of her dogs and loves them very much. Just my 2 cents worth since I own one of her puppies as well. ![]() Here are a couple of recent pics of Sophie and you can see she's doing great. Last edited by kristy47; 08-06-2009 at 08:31 PM. | I hope your baby recovers completely very soon. I am glad (as I know she is) that she has come to such a loving caring home. She is lucky to have you for a mommy

and they are probably ones who never sent her a pm. Can you tell I have about had it this week. I'm not saying all is right here and you can continue to believe what you do but the breeder was willing to make it right.

| To the OP, If the meds you are using are not effective in getting rid of the bumps and stopping the itching You should have the vet do a skin scrape and check for mites. Mites can cause bumps, scabbing, itching and poor coat as youve described. It also makes more sense to me that it might be mites and thats why the other pups sold werent affected. If it is mites they are not caused by breeder or owner negligence. If the dogs immune system gets down the mites multiply and cause problems. It can happen with any dog and happened with mine after an allergy to a flea bite. *I dont know if this is the cause but I thought I would throw it out there. I hope the meds work for your pup and all is well

| Whether it mites, bites, mange, I would think the seller would have noticed that on a pup when handling him/her, and have it looked at and treated, before the pup left their home. Then send the treatment home with the new owner so they know whats going on and how to deal with it. If seller didn't notice, opps, but at least pay for the meds the pups needs to get better. Glad you got some $$ back, I think that was the right thing to do. |

| Glad she came through on at least a portion of the vet bill. I think you both have your heart in the right place and are most concerned for the puppy as it should be. I wish you many years of happiness together!
