| ![]() Whenever I take Mr. Biggs to the doggie parks, everyone always tells me that I should breed him because he is so cute and small (only 4.5 lbs w/ teddybear face). He's AKC registered and I think he has from 3-5 champions in his pedigree that goes 3-5 generations back (I'm at work, so I don't have it in front of me). My questions are: What tests do I have to take him in for to see if he will be a good stud? What tests do I have to make sure the female has had? What kinds of things should I include in a studding contract? How often do the male and female have to get together? How long does it take for yorkies from conception to birth? (stupid question, but I can't remember. lol) How many puppies are in the average litter? At what age should you stop breeding a stud? Also, how hard is it not to keep all the babies????? lol. (that will be the hardest part for me) Thanks in advance guys! I'm in no rush to breed him (eventhough people keep telling me they would like to breed him with their female), I just want to make sure I get all the info I need before I make my decision. Thanks in advance! -Christina

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | ![]() I asked the same question a while back in the breeder section - bc people were telling me to breed Marcel. They gave some good advice: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=89327

| ![]() I would make sure my stud was exactly that, stud quality. Have a vet check his patellas, structure, bite, 2 testicles, etc. Have a reputable show breeder or AKC judge go over the dog to see if he is sound and meets the standard of the breed. does he have champion parents? Or just a couple of champs in the 3rd or 4th generation? What is your purpose in studding him out? If you are really wanting to do this, I would have proof of the females vaccinations and a current brucellosis test that is negative. The owner of the bitch will probably want to see yours also. The female to be bred will stay at your house for approximately 1 week form the 9th day of her heat. I would breed one time, every other day. At least 2 to 3 breedings total. If your boy is a virgin, he might be hard to breed, especially to a virgin female. I always hold my male and female when breeding in case of a fight when they are tied. The stud fee is due upon first tie, unless you are wanting a puppy back. Just remember that you are responsible for the female while she is at your house. Good luck!!! Lynn |
