Help! Hello all I'm am new to all this. I have a yorkie/shihtzu and she looks exactly like a blond yorkie. Any way when I bought her a couple of months ago the lady i got her from said she might be pregnant and that if she is she would be due between the first and third week of September. and yes she is pregnant you can feel the puppes moving in her belly. But last night she threw up all night long, is this normal? |
Dogs can get sick through their pregnancy...could be that maybe the breeder had her due date wrong? Anyway, the bigger the pups get, the less room will be in her tummy. If she continues, take her to the vet. You don't want her to get dehydrated. |
She may be in labor. :confused: My girls sometimes throw up (not all night long)... right before they give birth. Hope all is well. :) |
She has just been laying around all day but that is usual for her. She follows me when I get up and then lays down when i sit down. I don't know anything about having puppies. I love this dog with all my heart and was hoping she wasn't going to be prgnant. My vet is out of the office until wendnesday. Is there any other signs to watch for? If what the lady said was true she should be between 60 and 63 days pregnant today. |
? Have you set up a place for her to have the pups? Do you have all the supplies on hand for the whelping? Debbie |

Sounds like your girl is ready Mine also threw up shortly before starting labor...is this her first litter? Is she having any contractions? Is she refusing to eat? Sorry for all the questions...maybe you have helped deliver pups before...I hadn't before my Tea' whelped six pups in June. Debbie |
This is her first litter and mine. She hasn't ate anything yet today but alot yesterday. I have felt alot of movement from the puppes today. I am totaly freaking out I don't know what to do and I have to leave for a few hours tommorrow. |
Has a vet checked her recently? Do you know approx. how many pups? It's a scarey thing if you don't know the size of her pups, and if her pelvis is big enough for these puppies (sounds like the woman was NOT doing you any favors putting your girl in this situation).. No way I would leave your girl alone...what if a puppy were to get stuck, you could lose not only your babies but your female as well! One of mine was born breech and the biggest pup (3rd of 6), if I hadn't been there to help her, I don't know what the outcome would have been. I know dogs have been having puppies for a gazillion years without our help, but I personally would not chance it. |
No she hasn't been seen by the vet recently I called a couple weeks ago when i started noticing she was pregnant and he said there was no need to bring her in unless she has complications, that sometimes it can stress them out to bring them in. She doesn't like other dogs at all so i have just kept her with me the last few weeks. |

The lady showed me the dog she was breed by and he was a yorkie and just about the same size as her a little fatter. I'm am not sure why you are jumping me, I take care of this dog as she is my child and if I really thought she needed to see a different vet I would take her in. She is acting fine. |
I'd get a second opinion, because this is yours and her first litter. It will probably make you feel better. |
I'm sure no one means to jump on you. It's a common practise with a first litter especially to have an xray done 7 - 10 days before due to see how many pups are expected and make sure that they are uniform in size so that you can be better prepared. I think the anger is more directed at the person who sold you a dog. I would never breed a mix but if it happened accidently I sure wouldn't pass the responsibility off to someone else. To sell you a dog and say, "oh it might be pregnant" just seems terribly thoughtless to me. She put you in a touch position and made her mistake your responsibility. I wouldn't consider her an ethical breeder at all. It sounds like you care about this little girl and have done some work to prepare for the whelping. I wish you and your gal luck and encourage you to get an xray. It's really nice to know when the pups are all out so you can take a deep breath. |
