my eyes are not the greatest but I only see March 15, 12:05. where do you see 1993....what line?? |
It's at the very top, the header of the page that's been scanned. |
Sorry, I was looking to the right of it for year. Never saw anything like that before and thanks for posting. |
Colors and Markings Yorkshire Terrier Below is a list of the colors and markings available for this breed. Please refer to the breed standard for descriptions and the difference in types. Description: The name of the color and/or markings. Type: Standard or alternate. This is the classification of the color for show purposes. Please refer to the breed standard for specifics regarding this breed. Code: This is the code entered on an application for registration of a dog. http://a248.e.akamai.net/7/800/14845...ault/empty.gif Colors DescriptionTypeCode Black & GoldS 234 Black & TanS 018 Blue & GoldS 041 Blue & TanS 044 These are the only colors that AKC has listed now. I would think that if a Yorkie doesn't fall under one of these colors then you wouldn't be able to register them. |
On the AKC website and the YTCA website, it said that the standard was approved April 12, 1966. You said that the color list was faxed to a friend of yours from AKC... Quote:

No, they will register a different color than those you described, but you have to send in a picture with the registration. |
I know that when I registered Diesel the choices above were the ONLY ones that you had to choose from. There was nothing on the form saying to send a picture of your dog if you could not register them under one of those colors. |
I sent AKC an e-mail inquiring about the different colors. I'm anxious to learn more about this. I'm sure they won't respond until some time next week and I'll post for everyone to read. |
On the puppy registration papers that I have in front of me, to the right says, "Markings - Enter the 3-digit code that most closely describes yoru dog. For alternatives, see www.akccolors.org " I went there http://www.akc.org/registration/colormarkings.cfm and it still only lists 4 colors. |
Thanks Kimberly, they are slow but will be anxious to hear what they say. The AKC is all about records and the more I think about it if they have proof that two pure bred yorkies were sire and dam of the pup then I would think they would have to register the dog . Although they cannot show it I wonder if AKC limits breeding?? I did know someone on the internet who sent a picture (so akc could see what came of the breeding of that sire/dam) and their dog was registered. The Biewer and Parti Color can be registered and they cannot show them yet and it doesn't look like they limit breeding in their case. Hummm very interesting. |
I am so glad that I have come to know and respect the AKC and YTCA standards as far as Yorkies go. Just because someone's dogs are cute doesn't mean that they meet standard. Every cute pet deserves a home but not all people who want to make money deserve to be breeders. I think its sad when breeders are clearly not breeding for the love of the breed, but rather to make money. I don't see how someone can say they are reputable and love the breed without even knowing some of the key points brought up in this thread. I appreciate all the people who spoke up in this thread and the eloquent words spoken by you all. I wanna know what health problems are associated with the chocolate Yorkies? Does anyone know for sure? |

Akc AKC has the problem of trying to play in both play grounds..that of the ethcial fancier who uses the standard as their as their "bible" and everyone else...it is because of losing so much revenue from non-standard color breeders that they will allow many colors...but at least they refuse to allow them to be shown..of course they would if breeders voted for it, which they did and was shot down. YTCA is perfectly happy with the standard as it is and if it is not broke then no need to repair it IMO... If AKC only registered correct color and no puppymill litters, they would go broke in a year...AKC has a very ahrd job trying to keep everyone happy..LOL I do respect the Biewers because they have their own standard and registry/shows..they are not trying to be something they are not... |
